rome

Hi

I accidentally found this website and saw some talk earlier about hotels in Rome.

I noticed someone mentioned the Hotel Santa Maria which used to be a convent.

Is this hotel in a good area, clean and safe?

This will be my first time ever in Europe and why not make Rome the first stop.

We will be two women and looking to spend between 150 and 200 euros top.

Thanks.

Adrienne

Hi Adrienne
I heard good things about the Santa Maria but haven't stayed there. Last time I was in Rome I stayed at the Albergo del Senato, right in front of the Pantheon , and loved it. The hotel, the rooms, location, breakfast. It was just perfect!
Other hotels you can check, which are good and well located are The Ceaser House Rome, The Daphne Inn, Hotel Ottocento and Hotel Celio. The Villa San Pio is also great but it's not very central.
Enjoy Rome, it's a fabulous city!

Thanks Tere

I am really excited about the trip. We plan to go the last 2 weeks in May.

I was wondering how the Trastevere area was in terms of location and safety.

I have also stayed at Albergo del Senato and it was very nice with a great location. On our last trip in May we decided to try Hotel Portoghese which is located near Piazza Navona. What a nice hotel. Saved money with it, great rooftop that we could bring our own wine up to and sit. We are going again the week of Thanksgiving. Good Luck and enjoy.

Trastevere is a very safe and fun place to stay. My husband and I rented an apartment there and loved it. It isn't as centrally located as some people prefer, but we found it close enough to the major sites for our purposes. It's just across the river from the Jewish Ghetto area and about a 15 minute walk to the Pantheon. And it's packed with restaurants and bars. It has a more neighborhood feel and less tourists. It just depends on what kind of experience you want. But I don't think there are many hotels there, unfortunately. You will have a fantastic time in Rome: we loved it!!
