Rome

Hi - I have seen one post telling me that you can take the train from Rome to the port Civitavecchia and other people who travel to Rome frequently tell me I shouldn't do it. Help please. It seems the train would be much more economical to pick up the cruise ship I'm going on, but I don't want to take chances. Thanks.

The train is cheap and doable. The problem is if you have a large case and lots of stuff then its a major hassle to drag it to station up the steps to the train, then off at termini and to taxi stand.
Why not check on curise boards and see if there are others on your cruise willing to share a shuttle it works out to almost the same amount with out the hassle.
I have done it both ways. Train is always crowded on ship arrival day
or spend a few bucks and get a ships transfer to Rome.

Hi Sharon, I have never taken that train but is it a possibility that some people have suggested that it is not a good idea because of the possibility of a train strike and consequently you would not get to your cruise ship in time? I often suggest that people not depend on the train to get to an airport the day the are due to fly home for that very reason. Also it is not uncommon for the trains to be running late which if you have to board your cruise ship could be a problem. Just a thought.

Regarding the people that tell you not to use the train..what is their reason?

Thanks guys.

LoveItaly-for the same reasons posted. Luggage up the steps and maybe train problems. Thanks for all your advice...I will look for other means.
