So If we were to check out of the hotel mid-week to go to venice and then come back, we could store our extra luggage at the hotel?? Is there a risk of theft at all?

Some hotels will hold onto your luggage for several days, but most would not. The general rule is only for the remainder of the day. Whether there was a risk of theft would depend on the security of the luggage room and the integrity of the staff. I think it's pretty rare for there to be a problem, but it has happened.

Check with your hotel before you arrive to see if they will store your luggage for that long - some will, but many just intend the rooms to hold luggage for people who arrive too early for check-in or must kill a few hours after check-out time before their plane or train leaves.

Risk of theft? I'm sure it happens, but I've never been a victim.

BTW, I'm seconding the recommendation of the Hotel Italia -- we liked the location because we could walk to the Pantheon, prime piazzas, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, etc.

It's about a 10-15 minute walk to Termini. We felt the neighborhood was just fine.

In short, the price was right, the service outstanding, the rooms and breakfast pretty good. All in all, a good value.

Good luck!

A luggage room is a place at the hotel where luggage is stored, usually if you arrive before the check-in time, or if you want to store the luggage after you check out."

Not necessarily. Once upon a time, wealthy people would stay in a hotel for weeks, bringing trunks and other large luggage. The guests rooms had "luggage rooms," very large closets, to store the stuff. I've stayed in a few older hotels hat still have them.

Hi

My wife and I stayed at Bettoja Hotel Nord Nuova last summer and we were happy with that. It is a three star hotel located near the train station Termini. I have posted a review of the hotel in my trip report http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm :-) Good luck with the planning.

Regards
Gard
