Rome 1 night hotel
 

Looking for a room for 1 night in Rome after flight maybe near Vatican area? Would like an area to walk to restaurants.

My current favorite hotel in Rome is Relais Le Clarisse, small, affordable and in the midst of Trastevere's restaurants. On the same side of the river as the Vatican and walkable (about a mile), also to the Forum and adjacent ancient sites, Campo De Fiori. And 2 tram lines, the #3 & #8, both pass by Trastevere station, making it very easy from the airport, no need to go all the way to Termini (less expensive than the Leonardo Express).

Hotel Alimandi Vaticano (What they call 4 star, sister on the next block is 3 star) is across the street from the Vatican entrance. A very lovely hotel when I was there a few years ago. They did offer airport transportation then, not sure about now.

Unless you plan to visit the Vatican, I wouldn't plan to stay there. The restaurant pickings are slim. If you're leaving by train the next day, I would stay near Termini station. There is a wide selection of restaurants there. and hotels in all price ranges, from hostels to 5-star. There's an Eataly inside the 5-star Exedra hotel, just a stone's throw from the station, but there are also many other restaurants within a short walk.

I also enjoyed the Donna Camilla Savelli. It's an evocative, expansive, historic property although the rooms are a bit dated style-wise if that matters to you. Have been to Rome several times and really liked this hotel and location.

Something totally different, and not near the Vatican, Hotel Nerva is a jewel box boutique hotel right behind the Foro di Augusto. Loved this place and have sent friends there who liked it very much too.

What are your plans for the next day?

Stayed at the Alimandi in the past and have sent both family and friends there. It is so convenient to get up and get over to the Vatican Museum early in the morning. You could also walk over to see St. Peter's lit up at night.

On the other hand, if you plan to see something in the historic center the next morning, why not stay there as Blvenci advises?

Thank you for the suggestions what our plans are now is to fly in on a Thurs morning I really want to see the Vatican and stay the night have a good meal..( reason for an area to walk around and find a nice restaurant and pub) .the next day at some point take a train to Naples and then to Amalfi coast area for the week. Will do more of Rome if time permits on the way back to the airport.

Then if you want to take the train, bvlenci has better advice. The Vatican is further from the train station.

Trastevere is likewise not convenient for long-distance trains. There are lots of restaurants in Trastevere, and it's an attractive neighborhood. However, there are also lots of restaurants near Termini station, and they're not as likely to be geared towards the tourist trade as those in Trastevere. And the trendy Monti neighborhood, as well as the hip San Lorenzo neighborhood are both an easy walk from Termini.
