Rome - bus service from airport to center of town?

Just curious to know if there is any other way to get to the center of town from Rome's De Vinci airport OTHER than taxi or train. Is there a bus service that will take you into town? I'm looking for another means of transport since the train station is not located near my hotel and taxi's are quite expensive from the airport. Thank you.

Go to the Hotel Reservation desk and get the shuttle right to your hotel. It's about the same price as train/bus ride.
Yes there are buses that go everywhere but it would be a round about confusing trip and a big hassle with bags.

Remember that there are TWO train services from the Rome Leonardo da Vinci Airport to the center of Rome: the one used by most tourists goes non-stop in 30 minutes to the Termini Central Rail Station and costs Lire 17.000 (service every thirty minutes). However, there is a local line (used mostly by commuters, service every fifteen minutes) costing Lire 9.500 which stops at the train stations on the periphery of the city (sometimes closer to your hotel): Trastevere, Ostiense, Tuscolana, Tiburtina, etc. Travel time to Ostiense is also 30 minutes. Schedules for both lines are posted on the Ferrovie Dello Stato
Web Site. Why not take the train to one of these other stations (choose the one closest to your hotel), and then a taxi from there?

No, there's no bus service. And when there was, pre-train, it ran to Termini.

Termini is not far from anywhere most tourists would stay. From there by cab would ordinarily run under ITL25,000, more likely under 15,000. Or take a bus or metro from there to the nearest stop.

As GAC suggests you have the alternatives of other stations, though most are really not much, if any, closer to normal tourist hotels and taxis may be a bit harder to get at those stations.

twenj

You should try airport shuttle a privately owned company. Excellent service and they run 24/7. Much cheaper than a cab. Only Lit. 50.000 for 2 passengers. They will drop you off directly in your hotel and you won't have to hassel with the bags. Book on-line at www.airportshuttle.it.

We reserved a limo from the airport to our hotel on www.limoservicerome.com
Our plane was 2 hours late and he still waited for us. There were four of us and I think the charge was about 40usd. I found this service on this message board and we were all appreciative after traveling for 12 hours to just hop in the limo and get dropped right at our hotel.

John:

As I stated above go to the Hotel Reservation desk. There are 2 of them located at the Rome airport. You do not need to reserve in advance. The shuttle leaves every 30 minutes. Our cost was 18000 lira(less than $9) per person each way door to door service. The price if you book on-line is almost double that. We booked return trip at the desk and were picked up a our hotel at 6:30 AM sharp for our return to the airport.
I could not have been more pleased with their service and will only take them in the future. It's no more expensive than the train and far more convienient.

Gerry: Thank you. I did not realize that you were referring to the "airport" shuttle in your earlier message. I will certainly use this service. Thanks again.

John:

Be advised that when I was there in March the shuttle did not run between, I believe, 11PM and 6AM. The shuttle left from the Hotel Reservation office at the north end of the terminal. You can buy tickets at either office but must check in at the north office so they will find you. Also there may be a line at the offices due to people trying to book hotel rooms. All in all though, worth the effort.
We had a great trip to Rome. I'm sure you will too.

Boun Viaggio
