Romantic Road - Your Favorite ?

What is your favorite town or place to stay on the Romantic Road ? We will travel between Garmisch and Frankfurt in September and would be very grateful for some input ? Thank you.

Hi SydneySteve

My absolute favourite place on Romantic Road is Rothenburg ob der Tauber (on the Tauber River). This is a superb medieval walled town with loads to see. there are a few interesting churches, beautifully decorated shops, a range of eating places and plenty of accommodation. I was there 5 weeks ago and had no trouble getting into Hotel Spitzweg, [email protected]. a friendly establishment and a steal at 65 euros a night.

Have to agree with Rothenburg. It IS the most overrun with tourists, but if you stay there, you will be able to enjoy it in the late afternoon/evening and morning when the horde of day-trippers is absent.

Rothenburg is a great place. As mentioned it is not crowded at all after the day trippers have left. Check out the torture museum!

What bigtyke is referring to is called the Criminal Museum and it is very interesting. Also worth visiting for a little R&R is the Burggarten.

I agree with Rothenburg and the absolute necessity to stay overnight, otherwise it can be a tourist nightmare. We stopped in Dinklesbuhl between there and Munich and found it charming.

Rothenburg OT is Hands Down the most beautiful medievil walled city I have been to. I will be returning again on my 10th Anniversary this year. I have been to the top of the tower in the Market Platz with a view of the whole town. And the Criminal Museum is a must. They also have a Night Walking Tour. You will love it and always go back. Enjoy... Cayte

P.S. Don't forget the Castle Garden

Thanks everyone. Now how about good food and accomodation ? Are there any standout experiences on the Road or in Rothenburg in particular ? Thanks again.
