Romantic Road bus

We need to choose between the train from Frankfurt to Rothenburg, or the Romantic road bus that supposedly gives a tour in English and makes one stop on the way to rothenburg. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi CI,

Costs, travel times, routes?

sorry, i wasn't very clear, i'm asking if the bus that leaves frankfurt at 8am and does a tour to rothenburg is a good choice. it's a bit more than the train, but will be our very first morning in europe,we're thinking it might be less confusing than trying to figure out the trains on our first day.

Generally when asking for help it is better to give more information rather than less; you'll get better, more detailed answers that way. So here are my questions:

What time are you arriving in Europe and will you be able to get to the bus depot (or wherever the bus leaves from) before 8:00?

If you can't make the 8:00 bus departure time what is Plan B?

Why will the bus be less confusing than the train?

How long does the bus take? The train takes 2.5 to 3 hours and has frequent departures from either the airport or the station in town.

Perhaps if you told us a bit more about the bus or gave a link you would get more advice.

Eons ago the bus - which departed directly outside Frankfurt Hbf (and probably ran the other way, from Munich, as well) - was free to Eurail Passholders and stopped at Rothenburg odT and Dinkesbuhl allowing passengers reasonable time to do their own thing at each. I'm curious that there may now be commentary on the bus as I vaguely recall there really wasn't much else of great interest on the bus route apart from those two towns (which had to be walked) - perhaps the driver provides a 'what to expect' summary prior to passengers leaving the bus to wander on foot. I'd be interested to learn what happens these days.
