Romantic Prague Hotel

My wife and I are newlyweds and are planning our honeymoon part II (part I was Maui last year!). I've searched the posts on this site and can't seem to find a recent recommendation for a hotel in the $100-150 price range for a romantic hotel in Old Town. I'd prefer not to stay in a Best Western or Marriot... I'd like something a little more authentic.

You guys have been so helpful in the past with planning my engagement in Paris, our honeymoon, etc, and I'd really appreciate the advice!

Well, I hesitated to suggest this wonderful place because I assumed it was out of your budget, but checked the website and see they are doing some pretty major discounting -- presumably because of the construction on the Charles Bridge. Take a look. We loved this place -- "The Three Ostriches".

If you can't get a hotel, you can check some apartments, also. These sites have both. Sometimes there are B&Bs or pensions that are very nice, but cheaper, also.

The Three Ostriches certainly would be a good romanticchoice with an excellent location at the Mala Strana entrance to the Charles Bridge. If it is too expensive even with the discount, an alternative could be the Hotel Kampa Island where we recently spent 7 nights. The hotel and rooms are not as romantic as those of the Three Ostriches, but its location on Kampa Island (the island begins just under the bridge)is even more ideal and romantic. The rooms there are modern in decor but the ones in the rear of the hotel have lovely views of the park and those on the top floor (elevator)have terrific views over red roofs to the castle and a tower of the Bridge. The building had been a school and is newly renovated and opened as a hotel last September so everything is new, clean and fresh. Its no smoking policy helps keep it that way. The top floor rooms are attic like and have sloping ceilings making them a bit smaller than the others as far as usable space is concerned. The price is well within your stated budget and you will not find nicer at the price. On the Kampa Island square are a number of nice restaurants. The one at 14 Kampa (its address is also its name)is very romantic, great Czech food beautifully presented, excellent service and surprisingly reasonable in price. Have a great time. You asked for an old town hotel. Kampa Island is not old town of course but at the Charles bridge it is a short walk. The island has wonderful views of the city, particularly at night.

I forgot to mention, wherever you stay, have a dinner at the 14 Kampa and order the strudel for desert. It was the best we ever had and its presentation was a lovely surprise.
