It's New Year's Eve and I'm in Paris.
I'm panicking! I'm not sure what to do tonight? Night club or Champs Elysées? I haven't made any reservations anywhere, can I still go?
I'm scared this will be a bust. My cousin isn't in the mood to go anywhere. She's sleeping.
Advice??

Be sure to watch your purse. And be sure to get on the Metro before it shuts down. Don't know what it would be tonight. Night club--by yourself? I don't think so.
Go somewhere for a view of the Eiffel Tower near where you are.

Hi passionfruit, your long thread inspired me to go toParis with my cousin too. We are here now, though we both have mild colds. We plan to hit some dive bars if we feel strong.
Maybe you should read this article for ideas, it is geared to people your age:

If I were you, I'd just get out and about and see where the wind takes me. Rouse your cousin and go! Be cautious but have some fun. Metro stays open all night, according to the article. Earlier this evening the station I was in was gratuit but maybe that was an anomaly.

if you're worried about getting back to the hotel, why not get the metro down somewhere where you can see the Eiffel tower and then work your way back.
or just go out and enjoy the atmosphere on the Champs.
but do go out and see what's going on...either with or without your cousin.

Just go to the Champs Elysées, which is very close to your hotel. If you are in the mood to go farther afield (Montmartre is also popular at midnight), don't forget that all public transportation is free until noon tomorrow. All of the metro runs until 2 a.m. tonight and some of the lines run all night (posters and brochures in every station) -- then normal service starts again at 5:30 a.m.

My nephew was in Paris for New Year's Eve a few years ago. He and his friends went to the Eiffel Tower. He had a blast! It was a trip he will never forget. The only trouble was getting a taxi back to his hotel. None available.
Wish I were there!!!
