Romantic dinner in Paris
 

My husband and I are heading to Paris in May for our 10th anniversary and are looking for a romantic restaraunt (preferably with a view). I've been doing some research since this is our first visit to Paris and have spotted Tour D'Argent, Taillevant and Le Jules Verne. These all sound fabulous but 400 to 700 on dinner for 2 is out of our price range ... around 200 for 2 would be more our speed. Any suggestions?

Happy Anniversay! We just celebrated our 20th (last year) and did the same as you - headed to Paris - where else?? Like you we wanted to have a romantic dinner avec le view! But also like you we baulked at the prices. We decided to forget the view and just eat at small very French restaurants, mostly recommended by this site. We were not disappointed. Do the romantic walk by the Eiffel Tower at night, walk across the Seine, stop on a bridge during the day and admire the view, have a romantic walk in Jardin Tullieres, all very romantic and guess what it all comes free!!! We did spend a lot of money on meals and wine so we were not in the budget category, however hundreds of euros for one meal hmmm, left me a bit cold. The other thought was to do the same during the day which is certainly cheaper, but we didn't actually even do that. I know George's view is meant to be spectacular, maybe we should have gone there, but there were too many negative comments from other sites for me to feel 100% comfortable with the cost.
Maybe someone else will come up with some super suggestions for you. Ps make sure you visit Monet's garden at Giverny. That was one of the key highlights for us on our trip. We just took the train ourselves from St. Lazare to Vernon, worked like a treat. Have a lovely lunch outside at Hotel Ancien Baudy at the end of the village. Tres romantic!! Have a great trip. Mclaurie - Thanks so much for the tip on looking up threads. Not only will this be my first trip to Paris but this is also the first time I've ever used a forum. I heard of Morot-Gaudry also but have not had the chance to look it up just yet. It's on my to do list tonight!

Schnauzer - How lovely ... 20 years! We look forward to celebrating that one day! We are also visiting Ireland, Avignon, the French Riviera and Venice. This will be our first trip to Europe so we're covering a lot of ground and are gathering as much info as possible! Thanks for your suggestions we are certainly anticipating romantic walks in Paris.

I always recommend La Truffiere, just because I want to go back there so badly.

How about Jules Verne for LUNCH instead? Best view in Paris and the 3 course lunch menu option should be around 100 euro each.

That didn't sound right. You had said 200 Euro for 2 or 100/per person.

The 3 course lunch menu is actually in the 50 Euro per person range. Even if you add a couple Kir Royales or glasses of champagne or a bottle of wine, you will still end up UNDER 200 Euros for the 2 of you at lunch at Jules Verne.

You might like Restaurant Lapérouse (51 quai Grands Augustins).

"This is a very old restaurant, founded in 1766, still in late 18th century style, with impeccable (yet very pleasant) service and really good food. We were escorted to a window-side table on the 1st floor. Very nice view over the Seine to the Louvre and the Palais de Justice".

Unless you go overboard on the wine (like we did) ou could have dinner for about 225E for two.

Though it doesn't get recommended frequently for dinner by fellow Fodorites (more for macarons), we really find the La Durée Salon de Thé on the Champ d'Elysée very special and romantic.

The main floor, in green and white tones, is great for watching the "beau monde" walk by on the Champs, but we prefer up the gorgeous marble staircase to the elegant Castiglione Room, window table. The cuisine is some of the best that we've had in Paris and the service is excellent, without being stuffy. We always enjoy a walk after dinner along the Champs down to the Arc de Triomphe where you can take the metro or catch a cab to your hotel.

You can view all the various dining rooms at La Durée Champs d'Elysée (as well as the other two locations which don't seem as elegant IMO ) on their Website.

klondike's suggestion of dinner at Laduree is an excellent one and well within your budget.

We had a most memorable and romantic meal there at a table overlooking the Champs Elysees and many of its trees lit with tiny white lights. The meal was delicious, and for dessert we had a choice of any of the Lauduree pastries.

We stopped by the day before to make a reservation. When we arrived for dinner, we were rewarded with the table with the best view in the entire restaurant (which we weren't quite expecting!).

Vin sur Vin on the left bank, not too far from the Eiffel Tower is a small romantic restaurant, not too expensive and a very good wine list.

Lassere is a 2* restaurant with a beautiful interior--and a ceiling that rolls back in good weather to let in a view of the night sky. Very romantic!
