Romantic and reasonably priced restaurant in Paris

My husband and I would like to escape the kids one night while we're in Paris next August and have a romantic meal to ourselves. Any suggestions for something romantic yet not too expensive ie, max $100. Euros or less? Thanks, Judy

La Ferme Saint-Simon, 6, rue de Saint-Simon, 75007. [email protected]
Tel 01-45-48-35-74. I first went there because of a Patricia Wells recommendation. Food is wonderful. Attentive service. Lovely interior. Just off Blvd St.-Germain. Not far from Musée d'Orsay. We sometimes go to the Orsay on Thursday evenings (not so many people) and dine at the St.-Simon after the museum.

My old favorite restaurant is Chez Julien, in the 4th, corner of 1 rue Pont Louis Philippe and 62 rue de l’Hotel de Ville.. Telephone 42-78-31-64. Closed Sundays. It can fit into your price range, depending on your wine order. You can spend less if you order the fixed-price menu. It is quiet, simple but pretty (lace curtains, etc), and with very good food. Not very dressy (but not jeans). The restaurant had a short appearance in the film “The Accidental Tourist” when William Hurt was briefly shown dining there.
Just got back from Paris. We had two really excellent, romantic and memorable meals:
Les Bookinistes
53, Quai des Grands Augustine
The most fabulous soup starter (consomme de langoustines et moules)--rich, wonderful mussels. Cost was just a little over 100euros for two, including a bottle of their house red (which was very, very good).

Au Gourmet de l'isle
42, Rue St-Louis en l'ille (on the Isle St. Louis)
This came highly recommended both here and by friends. We couldn't believe it. Pre-fixe menu was, as promised, terrific. It included a kir to start, 1/2 bottle of wine each, starter, plat and dessert. Including cafe creme our total bill was 68euros! Again, we had mussels to start (it IS Paris!) and they were fixed scampi-style--incredible. I had the roast pork they are known for and it was excellent. It's small, candlelit, on a tiny side street.

Make sure you have reservations for both (Au Gourmet is closed Monday's and Tuesdays, but that might not be the case in August).

For added romance, take time to stroll to the Place de Vosges park (in the Marais district, through the Hotel Ville, I believe). Small, lovely little bit of respite from the city. We could have sat there for hours!

Have a wonderful time!

We're not great French food lovers, so after a couple of so so French meals, my wife and I stumpled on the best Chinese restaraunt in Paris. We shared their roast duck serving, which was a huge portion - it just melted in our mouths with the tastiest sauce we've ever come across. And the won ton soup with noodles, which we each had our own bowl, was not only a huge portion (a meal in themselves for some)but the won tons had the largest amount of meat and the tastiest we've ever had (not like the little ones in the won ton soup you get in the US). It's a small place actually, but very warm and friendly and an atmosphere where everyone is just digging in and enjoying their meals. It's not romantic in the sense of being off in a a quiet, candle lit corner somewhere, but my wife and I are very romantic ourselves and we related together in this place in a very intimate way. So we thought it was a very romantic evening together. They don't give you silverware, so you have to manage somehow to eat with chop sticks, which my wife has never been good at, but she did learn well enough when she had to. We were there in the off season (late September) and only had to wait a few minutes for a table, though when we left there was quite a line of folks waiting outside to get in and be seated. I don't believe they take reservations. It's name is "Mirama Restaraunt Chinois" and it is located in the 5th district at #17 St. Jacques, just below St. Germain heading toward the Seine river. Fabulous meal! P.S. Your 100 euro will cover the meals and drinks easily even if you eat alot more than we did.
