Romania & Bulgaria - July 2023

Dear All,

Greetings from Goa....!!!

Well, me and my wife, along with our 2.5 yr old daughter are planning a 9 night trip to Romania and Bulgaria in July 2023. The nights do not include Day of arrival and departure. We have in the past travelled to many European countries but as a couple and not after our daughter was born.
Im am seeking suggestions on the following please and request help on the same....

1. Where can we spend more time? Romania OR Bulgaria...? We love sightseeing, culture, food, exploring old towns etc...
2. Can someone pls share an itinerary...covering the main sights....

3. Are there any kids activities that we can do ......places like Disneyland, Universal Studios etc....Any suggestions for 2-3 year old kids...

Thank you in advance and looking forward to your valuable suggestions....Thanks

"We love sightseeing, culture, food, exploring old towns etc..."
In this case, spend AT LEAST 1 week in Bulgaria and 2 weeks in Romania or forget it.

You really only have enough time to see part of one country. I would suggest the southern part of Romania, although Mamamures is fascinating. I have no idea what kids activities there may be, not having any, but you may find my trip report on Romania helpful. Start here and use the links at the top of the page: https://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com...ing-bucharest/

I have also visited Bulgaria: https://mytimetotravel.wordpress.com...tour-in-sofia/

I wrote a couple of trip reports about our travels in Bulgaria and Romania. I would say that Romania has a greater variety of visuals, as it was influenced by a variety of cultures, including German and Hungarian.

The issue is the mode of travel. Public transportation can be cumbersome with a 2.5 year old. A car rental might be in order. We traveled by car on our 2005 trip to Romania, used a guide in Bulgaria for two day trips outside Sofia, and public transportation between the major cities. Click on my name and scroll through the list of trip reports to find the relevant three. Romania might be easier in terms of car travel as you are guaranteed a Roman alphabet for street signs; Bulgaria's alphabet is Cyrillic, although the street signs might be bilingual (I did not notice).
