is this the name of the b&b,"via emanuele filiberto", or just the street names?

also do you have a link of the b&b we can look at?

Here is the address:
Hotel Roman and Italian B & B
via Emanuele Filiberto, 161
I-00185 Roma

Here is the map:
http://www.italianbandb.com/english/cartina_grande.html

It has very positive reviews on the Rick Steves site and on TripAdvisor.

But the location does seem a bit remote to me, but then I don't know Rome.

I'm considering it also so would like to hear comments.

No, it is not a remote area. Eur is more distant from the core of ROme than Manzoni which is just a couple of stops from Termini Railway Station. Manzoni metro stop is near San Giovanni in Laterano church (great basilica), Piazza San Giovanni and its shopping area along Via Appia. I don't know this B&B, but I have taken so many times both metros and trams from Manzoni and found it a great starting point to go around Rome.

Thanks BATUFFOLINA. I have sent them an email and we'll see what they want to charge me. I'm glad to hear the location is convenient.

Incidentally, after reading your reviews and others, I booked La Forcola in Venice.

I loved Hotel La Forcola, WillTravel. It is right on Strada Nuova, the hotel was clean and the buffet breakfast was great (I admit, I indulged in it shamefully: Nutella, freshly made fruit pie, croissants, yogurth, orange juice... plus the cappuccino or hot beverage that the waitress brings you). I arrived in Venice Santa Lucia and took the vaporetto, got off at San Marcuola stop and in less than 3 minutes walk I was there. The facade is nothing exceptional, but the inside is neat. Rooms have safe, fridge and tv (not many channels though..). I had a room overlooking the Strada Nuova, with 2 windows overlooking the canal and the people that would walk from the station to the city core. Strada Nuova is filled with shops, including Lush if you know the product (I got nuts there and spent too much money on soaps... I admit). I don't know if Fosca still works at La Forcola, but she was really nice with us. If you don't want to walk from San marcuola stop you can take the vaporetto #1 leading to Rialto and San Marco. Otherwise in 10 minutes walk you can arrive to Rialto and San Marco. Near la Forcola there is also the Casino. Very pleasant stay!

We also will be staying at this B&B in Rome in Nov. so will be watching for any more feedback. I found this B&B on Trip Advisor and there were several positive remarks. We are staying in the 2 bedroom/1 bath/kitchen flat for under $100/night. It is owned by a young couple and Marco also has a car service.

I have been offered a rate of 40 Euros per night for a single room and breakfast at this B&B.

From my research, it looks like either the Beehive Hostel or this B&B would be my best choices.

The Beehive is at via Marghera 8, a couple blocks from Termini.

Any thought as to which would be a better location?

Yes Via Marghera is a street that hits Via Marsala, the street that goes along the right side of Termini Station. I used to walk along these streets when I would go to my University Department (in Via Castro Pretorio) and I would say that it is a bit seedy, as all the streets around the station: lots of scooters parked along the streetwalk, narrow streetwalk, but on the whole it is ok. Yes it is super super central because you are at a stone's shot from Termini Station and Piazza dei Cinquecento which is the main bus stop, so you have better bus/metro/train connections than if you were staying in Via Emanuele Filiberto. I would stay in Via E. Filiberto though, it is just a couple stops from Termini and the area is slightly better IMO.

Thanks BATUFFOLINA. I like to have all bookings done well in advance, but the Beehive doesn't take reservations until November for January stays. Maybe I will just go with the B&B.

WillTravel, do you know that from Viale Manzoni, which hits Via E. Filiberto, you can get tram #3 that will take you to the Colusseum? If you take the metro from Manzoni (line A) you must change in Termini and get line B ang get off at Colosseo stop. You can also continue the tram ride and get off at Circo Massimo (which is behind the Palatine Hill), so you can do a tour of the Forum from a different starting point (and there is a ticket office on Via San Gregorio where you can purchase the combo ticket Palatine + Colusseum avoiding the LONG lines).
Also, taking tram # 3 on the opposite direction you can go to Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano, where there is the beautiful basilica as I stated before. Get off in San Giovanni.

I did not know that at all. Thanks! I am a bit intimidated by how much research I need to do for Rome, so that really helps.

The basilica you mention is supposed to be about 300m from the B&B.

Yes, Piazza San Giovanni is very close and reachable on foot. On Via E. Filiberto there are many shops too, the Hotel President and a movie theatre too. On Viale Manzoni, near the tram stop, there is a bar and if I am remembering well also a little grocery shop. Plus near Piazza San Giovanni there is Via Sannio, where there is an open market from monday to saturday. They don't sell veggies or fruit, but clothes, shoes and leather stuff. A part of this market sells used stuff too. Also there is COIN, a large department store (perfumes, clothes, leather scarves etc etc). If you walk along Via Appia, there are LOTS of lovely shops of all kinds.
