Roma Pass - FCO to Rome Central? is it covered
Hi There
I leave for Rome in less than 2 weeks. We have decided that we are definitely getting the Roma Pass. We're unclear, and I haven't been able to find a clear answer on the forums, whether the travel pass included on the pass is valid for travel on the FR/FM1 from FCO. I know the Leonardo Express is not covered, but for where our hotel is, it's easier to use the FM1. Can anyone tell me clearly yes or no? Also if we buy the pass online, where to do we collect it at the airport? Or do we just print something off the computer? I've looked at the websites previously mentioned on the site, but haven't yet purchased the pass. And we know about the shuttle services, but our budgets don't stretch enough for that, so if the Roma Pass will cover getting us from the airport, we're excited about the adventure of using the trains. Thanks in advance. Bianca |
This is what the RomaPass Web site says about transport:
>>Free admission to ATAC urban buses and trans, Underground lines A and B, Met.Ro trains: Roma - Lido, Roma - Viterbo (in the Roma - Sacrofano section), Roma - Pantano railways lines.<< Since the FM1 is not a Met.Ro train, it is not covered. And this is what it says about where you can buy it: >>Roma Pass and Roma&Più Pass can be buyed: Online (under construction) In all Museums and sites that have joined the initiative In the Tourist Information Points of the Municipality of Rome: Stazione Termini - Via Giolitti, 34 (Binario 24) Stazione Termini - Piazza dei Cinquecento - Vetrina Roma Aeroporto Leonardo Da Vinci - Arrivi Internazionali (Terminal C) Castel S. Angelo - Lungotevere Vaticano Via dei Fori Imperiali - Piazza del Tempio della Pace Via Minghetti - Fontana di Trevi Piazza delle Cinque Lune - Piazza Navona In APT - Azienda di Promozione Turistica di Roma (Via Parigi, 5) At Bioparco – Giardino Zoologico di Roma In Complesso del Vittoriano, Via di San Pietro in Carcere At Visitor Centre – Fori Imperiali On the Trambus Open – Piazza dei Cinquecento<< People have reported various degrees of success in buying the RomaPass at FCO. I wouldn't buy it online; I'd just try at FCO and Piazza delle Cinque Lune. |
If the FM1 isn't covered, are there any buses from the airport that would be covered? We're on a really tight budget, and would really like to be able to use the travel pass part of the Roma pass to get from the airport to our hotel.
Unfortunately the world economy seems to know when our family goes on holiday, as the South African Rand has decided to take a nose dive over the last few weeks. As it has done just before previous trips too! |
Frankly, I doubt that there *are* any public buses from FCO to central Rome; where there is a train connection, there are rarely buses as well.
For another thing, the Italian version of the RomaPass says that it can be used "within the Comune di Roma"; FCO is not within the Comune di Roma. |
The local train connection to the Trastevere station is quite inexpensive, 5 or 6 euros per person, and convenient for that part of the city.

The Roma and Piu Pass transportation appears to include more than the regular Roma Pass.
From the Roma Pass website: Roma&Più Pass Transport Free admissionto ATAC urban buses and trans, Underground lines A and B, Met.Ro trains, extra-urban coaches Cotral and regional railways Trenitalia - 2nd class (except special connections, Leonardo Express and local urban services though carried out by Cotral). |
