Roadtrip GER-AUT-SVN-HRV-ITA w/ 6-month old Baby
Dear Travellers,
we are currently planning a trip to start mid August this year from Cologne for a bit less than 4 weeks. It would be our first bigger roadtrip with our our 6-month old baby. We enjoy the mix of cities with exploration and good food together with more remote places in the nature.
See below our itinerary for the trip that already tries to combine that with the needs of our little one (e.g., not too long distances per stop, at least 3 nights given packaging, etc.)
How your experience can help us:
Thanks a lot in advance - Looking forward to hearing from your experiences.
Best,
MaSaNi

How your experience can help us:
- General perspective on the trip (e.g., you'd recommend to cut/tweak a stop, etc.)
- Specific recommendations for the stops (e.g., kids friendly activities, nice places to stop on the way, exact locations/ small towns to stay in the rural areas)

- Start Cologne
- Nuremberg (1 Night)
- Chiemsee (3 Nights)
- Ljubljana (3 Nights)
- Rovinji (6 Nights)
- Verona (5 Nights)
- Innsbruck (3 Nights)
- Allgäu (3 Nights)
- Tübingen (1 Night)
- Arrival Cologne
Best,
MaSaNi

First some legalities you need to over come.
Driving on road trips like is is becoming more and more complicated.
The main reason is because of low emission zones. A rental should comply with most because it is a new(ish) car. It is the documentation you may need to apply for before hand that could me a stumbling block.Your vehicle will need a pass for the highways in some of those counties.
You child will need a seat which is EU standards for fitting.

I rather oddly cannot find an official EU website for child seat regulations. The following should be confirmed if it is up to date.
https://www.rhinocarhire.com/Drive-S...ws-Europe.aspx
The same with IDP requirements. Again this needs confirming if it is up to date.

With Summer traffic and needing to stop for feeding and changing a baby, add about 20 to 30% to drive times.
I would probably do a more concentrated trip, geographically, exploring two countries or areas super close together: Germany and one other country, but we don’t know where you have traveled before, so hard to say which. Are you renting a car or do you live there and have your own?
If you do road trips, guess you already know, but you will need a really good cooler with ice and plenty of water for baby and you. Take a big sun umbrella that you can use safely over baby at places like Chiemsee if you are doing a beach or park afternoon.
