Roadtrip: Bordeaux to Geneva

Roadtrip Bordeaux to Geneva
Hello – I’ll be in Bordeaux, France on a Friday and have business the following week in Geneva. I was planning on making a 1 day road trip by car from Bordeaux to Geneva over the weekend. According to Google Maps, it’s a 6-7 hour drive, which is fine for me to make an entire day of the drive.
My questions are:
a) Is there a suggested route, considering I’m looking to make a day trip out of this? Google Maps suggests taking A89 as the most direct route with an option to take A40 at Riom. Does taking A40 offer anything interesting to see, or make for a more pleasurable drive in any way?
b) Anything along the way that would be worthwhile pulling off for? E.g. Nearby sights, or great restaurant for lunch? Note that I am a pescatarian, in that the only animal meat I eat is fish.
c) Is this just a dumb idea and I’m much better off taking a different mode of transportation?
Thank you for any advice!

Given the limited time, I would fly from Bordeaux to Geneva. Check this out for low-cost flights: http://www.flylc.com/directall-en.asp#.U3JnJS9FPPY

That doesn't sound like fun to me. I'd fly.

Thank you very much for your input, which is useful. I'm now leaning toward flying and just maximizing my time in and around Geneva.
Thinking of taking a drive to Chamonix. Other advice?

www.viamichelin.com will give you itineraries, driving times, tolls and fuel costs for driving. One good thing about Geneva at least is that the airport has a French side, which eliminates international drop-off fees for a rental car.

Thank you kerouac. I'll check out the link.
Turns out I'm going to drive, after-all. I like driving and there just wasn't an ideal flight time. Besides if you consider the overall travel time, considering airport checkin, wait, departure, arrival, it's likely not much different, plus I have more freedom in my schedule.
