Road trip - Italian to French Riveria

Hi all!

I am headed on my honeymoon next month with my husband and we are driving from Florence, Italy to Montreal, France.

We are staying in Nice for one night as a mid way point.

On our way there we were looking to explore a spot or two along the way.

I honed in on Portofino or Santa Margherita but we are open to suggestions.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

From Nice to Montreal, open to ideas for that part as well.

Many thanks in advance!

Do you mean the Montréal near Carcassonne? There are a few different places of the same name across Southern France.

I take it that you intend to stop overnight in several other places, as it's a longish trip to do in two days. I'd maybe stop at Genoa, Nice, Arles or Nimes. Depending on how long you do have, you could even detour to Andorra.

Just one query; is this in a hire car? If so, you're going to pay a hefty fee for a one way hire (unless you're going to return to Italy) and you must tell them that you'll be taking the car out of Italy if you intend to return there.

Good point re car hire, cross-border drop-off fee maybe €600 to €850. Consult viamichelin for the quickest route, then plan from there. Be cautious re luggage unattended in the car.
