Road Route from Berchtesgaden to GP

Wondering about the most scenic route from Berchtesgaden to Garmisch. I think of three routes:
1. Follow to Reit am Winkl and onto GP
2. Follow to Innsbruck/Hall and onto GP
3. Follow down to Kitzbuhel, then onto Lienz and then upto Innsbruck.

any thoughts about a trip in late September?

Danke,

Keith

#3 of course. The National Park Hohe Tauern is one of the most beautiful places you can go in Austria. In late September, it may be you have to use the tunnel otherwise the Großglockner is a must!! I like hiking in Kals. If you have been to the rockies in Colorado or even Yellowstone, this is what you can expect to see there, plus some very picturesque villages.

Leaving tomorrow and will take Treplow#s earlier recommendations to Reit am Winkl unless someone has some deep insights.

Tschuss,

A scenic route is by taking the signposted German Alpine Road (Deutsche Alpenstrasse), which meanders at the foots of the Bavarian Alps some 173 miles between Berchtesgaden and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Not the quickest way but scenic.

#3 in fact differs from the other routes as it's BY FAR the most beautiful route you can possibly take betweeen those 2 places. You'll cross the alps at the highest peaks and you will see the Hohe Tauern National Park as well. It's the most impressive area in the austrian alps.
