Road construction in Nice - will it be a problem?

Has anyone driven around Nice lately?

We will be staying in the Grasse area for a month beginning April 15th. I am hoping to get down to Cours Saleya and the Vieux Ville at least a few times during our stay.

I've heard that there is a lot of roadwork going on in Nice that is causing traffic problems.

Does anyone know what specific areas are being affected?

If we drive into town from the west end and head directly to Cours Saleya, should we expect to hit delays and detours?

We just got home Easter Sunday. We spent one night in Nice and drove on to Italy. We didn't have an traffic problems.

I was there in December. The road construction pertains to the new tram system work. Only thing affected is Avenue Jean Medecin from Gare Ville to Place Massena and then between there and Gare Routiere.

We were in Nice for a week in February, and had no problem with road construction. As LarryJ said, it is in a very small area, and didn't sem to bother anyone. You didn't ask, but we loved a small restaurant called Le Tire Bouchon, 19, rue de la Prefecture, and had incredible raw oysters and paella at the Boccaccio, 7, rue Massena.
have a wonderful time.

Merci beaucoup everyone ... I am printing out this thread to help convince my husband that driving into Nice won't be a problem!

Thank you, epi, for your restaurant recommendations ... I've added them to my list. What was it that made you love Le Tire Bouchon?

Cigalechanta ... another great tip ... olive oil was high on my shopping list and now, thanks to you, I know where to go.

P.S. using my empty tin as a vase.

Great idea!!! I'm going to plant some sunflower seeds before we leave ... the timing should work out great ... by the time the tin is empty, the sunflowers should be in bloom. So very Provencal, n'est pas?

We were in the Nice area in September and saw the construction going on in the Place Masséna, which required a bit of a detour--but not bad. The main road along the coast to Cagnes-sur-Mer, however, was undergoing major renovation, and that made traffic a mess. I don't know whether the same situation still applies, but there are alternate routes into Nice.
