Just FYI, the St Remy market is on Wednesday, in case you might be interested in that.

Don't visit Avignon on a Monday - when most of the shops will be closed in the am. Some will open after lunch - but that usually starts around 2:30 or 3.

I think I would skip Monaco & spend more time in Nice.

@artfan --- yes, since we are doing the market in Aix, I thought we would skip St Remy's unless you think it's worth doing.

@Stu --- thank you. Maybe the last few days should be Nice and Villefranche then. I think we are curious about Monaco more than anything else. Do you have any suggestions about what to do Monday morning. After reading your guide it seems lots of places are closed on Monday morning.

We enjoyed the St Remy market very much. It also was easy to walk there from where we stayed, which was a plus (we were there in early July and parking might have been an issue, had we needed to drive). I had hoped to go to the Aix market too, but we didn't make it to that one, so I can't offer any comparisions for you - others may be able to weigh in on that. If it was me and I was in St Remy on market day, I would go, if only for a short time (but then I like markets).

Aix has markets in several locations on Tues, Thurs, & Sat. IMO, it is much better than the St Remy market & a little less touristy. I think the market in St Remy is OK - but it kinda distracts from the enjoyment of the village of St Remy itself. That's not important for you since you will be staying in St Remy & will visit it on other days.

Visit the Luberon villages on Monday. Shops in Gordes & Roussillon will be open. l'Isle sur la Sorgue is especially dead on Mondays - the day after their huge market. We were there on a Monday once.

I wouldn't want to drive from Nice all the way to St-Rémy after, presumably, a long flight. That's a considerable distance, even on the motorway. Why not take the train to Avignon and pick up your car there?
