river/Nuremburg to Vienna in December

Hi, I am curious if someone out there would know if the river is usually open from Nurenburg to Vienna? I assume there are some locks? Do they ever get closed down from the weather/ice/snow? Sue

Apparently not since there are so so many cruises down that part of Danube in December a Google shows. If chance of being cancelled there would not be so so many?

River levels can affect many river trips (too low in summer/too high in winter) When water levels are too high and the cruisers can't navigate under the bridges they substitute land travel (i.e. buses)

I'm taking a river cruise over Christmas (Munich/Regensburg to Koblenz/Frankfurt) and am fully prepared for the possibility of itinerary changes.

There is no river from Nürnberg to Vienna. ;) The first leg, as far as Kelheim near Regensburg, is the Rhein-Main-Danube channel, which can temporarely be closed due to ice drift (happend just 4 weeks ago). OTOH, the Danube, which is fed by tributaries that bring meltwater from the Alps, often has high waters in spring which can lead to suspension of any traffic for some days up to some weeks (last time in january for two weeks).
You can always check the current level for Passau here: https://www.hnd.bayern.de/pegel/dona...assau-10091008 (currently it is two meters below the high water threshold) .
