River Cruises in Europe

Looking for the best river cruise to take in Europe. Will be in Vienna leaving Friday, July 17th. Looking for a cruise going north. Doesn't have to be out of Vienna. Which is the best river to cruise for sight seeing. Rhine, Danube, etc?

Do you want the self drive kind?

No, we are a couple of 66 year Americans who will be in Vienna for a conference and are looking for a good river tour so we don't have to keep changing hotels.

Look at the follwoing companies that offer river cruises in Europe:Viking River Cruises, Uniworld, Amadeus,Avalon, Peter Dielman. Viking used to have cruises starting in Vienna and heading north towards Nuremberg, Amsterdam.

All of them rated in Conde Nast Travel magazine of Feb. 09 under small ships.

And Grand Circle Travel, their river cruises are wonderful, however they don't have one that begins in Vienna. But on the puter, just put gct.com to check theirs out. Halfpint

Hi SThies; Discounts on Europe river cruises are incredible. Check www.cheapertravel.com to start for discounts on ALL the river companies. Just click on 'river cruises'. Don't accept the posted discount. Call them and ask for additional money off. Dick

I'm a Deilmann fan. They are a bit more expensive than most of the others but we found the added cost well worth it.

The Danube cruise that I took with GCT atually left from Vienna, but that might be only for the Christmas Markets cruises in December. Those cruises leave either from Nuremberg or from Vienna, depending on the dates.
