Ritz in Florence for 8 days?

I need help! Should we base out of Florence? Anyone ever stayed at the Ritz Hotel there? Or should we stay there 3 nights and then head out to The countryside and stay and make day trips? I am overwhelmed at this point. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well, not knowing who "we" is and not knowing when you are going and not knowing if you have traveled Tusacny before it is hard to answer.
I cannot imagine 8 nites in Florence. Get a car and get out of town to near Siena for 5 days of exploring. Good luck !

I have spent many a happy week in Florence and am doing so again in 9 weeks. You do not say what time of year nor your personal likes and dislikes.

I like options so basing a 15-20 minute walk from the center is perfect for me. Daytrips are easy, I do not have to rent a car, and I am not a countryside kind of gal. I would take NYC over a rural locale any day so staying in the countryside is a personal decision based on likes and dislikes.

The Ritz 2 years ago was above a Chinese restaurant so lots of noise and cooking smells lik grease.

Think you can do better.

hi, eshore,

i just googled the ritz, florence. I note that it mentions it's in a lot of guides, but the entries seem rather old. also the rates seem quite cheap for where they are and a 4* hotel [I got a quote of E99 for double room in July, but perhaps that's because they want to fill the rooms].

there are lots of recommendations on this forum for nice little hotels in florence.

I would stay in florence for 3-4 nights,[depends how much you like cities] then venture out into the countryside - again lots of suggestions here on where to stay and go.

good luck,

regards, ann

Thank you all very much for the info. My husband and I will stay in Siena for 4 nights and then go to Florence for 4 nights. That seems to make the most sense. I have narrowed down the hotels to Hotel Europa, Hotel Laurus an San Gallo Palace Hotel. In Siena, Hotel Santa Caterina and Palazzo Ravizza. Would appreciate any comments.

I have stayed at the San Gallo 4 times for a week each. GREAT hotel, well located for my tastes and wonderful value for Florence.
