I'm sure the incident started with
one "pretending" to spit on the other...couldn't one press charges for that?
I had dinner with some friends last night and we discussed the reclining seat issue. Most were in favor of reclining, those who weren't admitted, eventually, that they prefer upright because they can't sleep on planes, and therefore tend to not recline so they can read or watch movies. Hmmm.
I'm glad you and your son had a great vacation.

Rita, what a wonderful trip!

As far as the seat thing goes...I do fly from the west coast to Europe and I never put my seat back...never. I do not enjoy having the seat in front of me doing that and so I won't do that to other. It all comes down to basic manners...treat other people how you would like to be treated. Just my opinion.

Reclining seats do not actually interfere with FOOT room, they put the persons head in your LAP. If you are reclining also, it is not that bad, but when you are trying to sit up and watch a movie or read, or eat, it is awful.
While no one should have to sit straight up for an entire flight, it is a shame when one persons comfort comes at the price of another passenger.
Sneezy, I am glad you liked my solution Drippy sneezy drops!!
(fyi) you can't sue someone for sneezing on the back of their seat/head. although if one is American, there surely is an attorney who will try!
I read these postings and was chuckling...re: the seat reclining. I personally believe that the only "rude" time to recline your seat is during meal service as it IS difficult then to eat your meal when it's practically under your chin (although come to think of it, it might help with any spills)!

Sneezy had an interesting suggestion; but it did put me in mind of a flight I took years ago (and the lesson learned) the woman next to me was eating her cherry tomato in the salad, and bit into it. The tomato splurted out like a rocket and sprayed the top of the seat, and some of the hair of the person in front of her! Moral of the story: put the entire tomato in your mouth!

Melodie

Nice report Rita. A couple of comments: I have never had a waiter turn down a tip, even though they are included (and I know I always overdo it) Last time I took Parishuttle (July) it was $23. I wonder if it's cheaper if there are multiple passengers?

Regarding the seat reclining issue... it will NEVER be resolved here. People feel too strongly one way or the other. I noticed when riding in a 1st class train car from Lausanne to Paris that when you recline your seat the seat itself slides forward giving you a reclining position without impacting the person behind you. You lose some knee room but they loose nothing. It seems to me like the perfect solution! Let the person who wants to recline give something up. Airline designers, are you listening?
