ristafel in Amsterdam?
can anyone suggest a very good ristafel
for Indonesia food in Amsterdam? we will
only be there for about 24 hours and
i was told that we should certainly try
one.

It is called "rijsttafel" ("rice table")
Good restaurants are Flamboyant, Amstel 111; Sama Sebo, PC Hooftstraat; Kantjil en de Tijger, Spui.

My wife and I ate at Kantjil en de Tijger (mentioned above) just last month. The name roughly translantes to mean the deer and the tiger. The meal was delicious! This was the first time we had ever sampled Indonesian food and it is indeed very differnt from anything we have eaten before.

Two bits of advice...1) make sure you are hungry before you go because the portions are enormous, or 2) order Nasi Rames, which is the name of a smaller portion of the same meal.

The Sama Sebo was recommended to us by a local resident, who is Dutch, and goes back to AMS frequently to visit. We ate there in May--great location near the Museums. It was not crowded on a Saturday afternoon--we had a combination type meal and enjoyed it. We had eaten earlier that week at the Floating Sea Palace, with a tour group. Both were good and more variety, of course, with a larger group, but Sama Sebo was a good choice.

When that sign saids = HOT DANGEROUS- on the seasoning sauce. Believe them. But the meal was very enjoyable.
