Riquewihr
 

I am considering booking a room at the Hotel Saint-Nicolas in Riquewihr. If you have stayed there and what were the rooms, food and service like? Any other recommended places to stay (under $100) in this town, surrounding towns or Colmar?

We stayed at Hotel le Riquewihr last spring. They had simple but very clean rooms, and a very good price. We are a large family, and they even had a large apartment unit that we were able to rent, that came to an equivalent of only around $100US per night. Dear Janet, You will love driving around the quaint little villages in this winegrowing region. It's one little village after, with Colmar being the largest. And you'll see the huge stork's nests. Haven't stayed at at that hotel but in a B&B with the owner being a vitner and letting us sample their wares. Have a great time. Linda

Best macaroons in Riquewihr are at the top of the hill on the left as you go up the hill.<BR><BR>Anyone who has gone to Riquewihr will understand this. The macaroons are to die for.

Oh those macaroons. Did you try the chocolate ones? Were they still almost too hot to eat? <BR><BR>Janet, you will love the villages on the wine road. In Riquewihr we stayed at H&ocirc;tel de la Couronne, in the annex, and it was fine, except that hauling our why-travel-light-when-you-can-take-everything suitcase, Godzilla, up to the top floor, nearly led to a call to the paramedics (who, being French and gorgeous, would have ended our marriage right there).<BR><BR>

Hi Janet,<BR>We stayed here the summer before last and had a large room sleeping 4 over the restaurant. Simple and clean and otherwise quiet until the Umpah Band struck up and played until I can't remember when. Karen Brown mentions the hotel in her book, but my impression was that our room, at least, didn't match up to her description. The town is wonderful and perfectly situated on the Rue de Vin. The best part is going out in the morning, as the bakeries are opening up and the women, in their white aprons, are offering macaroons. Very charming! You might look into chambre d'h&ocirc;te in the area, as they looked really fine and they are just as reasonable. Also, be sure to visit the Hansi museum.<BR>Enjoy!<BR>Dr. Betty

We stayed at the Hotel le Schoenbourg just outside the castle walls, not even a 5 minute walk inside. It is a newer hotel with a small pool, if you have kids. We don't and we loved it. The staff were very friendly and gave us excellent recommendations for dinner. Awesome area. The Tokay Pinot Gris is to die for.

We stayed in R. too. It was a quaint, cute town. Farther than you might think from Colmar. But, a pleasant ride.

We stayed in "little venice" of colmar at the Hotel marechal and there is a balcony dining area overlooking the canal, a location very easy to travel to Riq. and the other villages.

We are staying at Hotel des Ramparts. It is apartments. Well done! Completely remodeled and beautiful. October 2017 update.
