What awful news.

bilboburgler Sep 27th, 2011 05:49 AM

Pity, such a good sense of humour

tarquin Sep 27th, 2011 06:27 AM

What a shame, and only 46. His wit on this forum was one of the things that got me hooked.

thereyet Sep 27th, 2011 06:31 AM

...me too tarquin, me too.

abranz Sep 27th, 2011 07:47 AM

he had an inimitable style.
the memory of some of his comments had me laughing at the most ludicrous moments.

Beautiful quote, Thin. Very glad you are back. Such sad news about CW - he will be missed.

As I posted on The Lounge post, I have been in contact with David's sister and she will let me know when they have information on the service. I will let everyone know as soon as I hear something.

She thanks everyone for their kind thoughts.

From Vicki West
Dear all thank you all again for your kind words and sympathies at this difficult time.
As promised details of the service and where to send donations if you wish.
Friday the 14th October 2011 at 10am.
Hither Green Crematorium (Also known as Lewisham Crematorium)
Verdant Lane, Lewisham, London SE6 1TP.
We would ask if possible no flowers but a charitable donation instead. (I am sure you will agree that David would have seen floral tributes as ‘a bit poncy.’)
If you would like to make a donation we are asking for donations to The Salvation Army.
Please make cheques payable to The Salvation Army, and send them for the attention of Mark Kent, The Salvation Army, 23-25 Brownhill Road London SE6 2HE.
Or general donations can be made on line at www.salvationarmy.org.uk
The Salvation Army will be conducting the service.
If you would be kind enough to let us know if you wish to attend that would be great, so we can get an idea of numbers, to try and organise possible refreshments afterwards.
Everyone is welcome, and we would be delighted if you can join us to celebrate the life of a unique young man.
Vicki, Brian and Annie.

Thank you for posting this Vicki.

I knew David here, on Facebook, and at TravelersToGo. I met him once in person - a memorable occasion! I shall miss him. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I would hope to be able to attend on the 14th, and will confirm a little nearer the time.

With best wishes, Julia

In the midst of this sad news -- something good:

The Editors received many requests and have reinstated cw's last profile so we can continue to find/read his wonderful 'stuff'

He gve me many a chuckle

historytraveler Sep 29th, 2011 01:30 PM

Such sad news. I think all of us will miss his wit and his clever and knowledgeable comments. And, now no one about to dismiss Miss Austen. He leaves behind many friends and admirers.
