Ring in tow

We are visiting the UK for the first time and I would like to hear about any romantic spots in England or Ireland that could accomadate the romance required for a marriage proposal. I need a spot that is second in beauty only to hers.

If you're looking for romance, stay far away from England.

Ireland has many spectacular spots, but one of my favorites is on the Wicklow Way, a hiking trail that starts in Dublin. The spot I'm thinking of overlooks the Powerscourt Gardens and waterfalll. Absolutely incredible, assuming you have a clear day. Check a hiking book for the location--you can drive within an easy walk of this point. I'm just not sure exactly how to get there by car.

Dave, what month are you going? Some of the best beauty spots in England have to do with flowers & gardens in bloom.
Dave,

This is her mother speaking - - "that will be _separate_ accommodations, right"?

Oh - - sorry for that...

Anyhow, one suggestion I can vouch for, and one on my radar screen for the near future...
The Crown Hotel (where Hugh Grant wooed Andie McDowell in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" - - actually filmed there, both in the lobby and in an actual guest room - - the "in bed" scenes).

16 High Street, Old Amersham HP7 0DH
Telephone: 011.1494.721.541
Fax: 011.1494.431.283

or

Langley Castle Hotel
Haydon Bridge, Tynedale, Nr. Hexham
Northumberland NE47 5LU

Looks absolutely amazing to me.

www.langleycastle.com

Best wishes,

Rex
Personally I think many places in England are romantic, especially many high spots in the countryside or by the sea - just about anywhere I've been actually except for the grey, industrial towns. After a good walk up the Tor in Glastonbury, for instance.

Oh, I think I got a cavity from that one.

Dave,
If she turns you down, you could always try that line on me...

Why not go up to Edinburgh in Scotland for a few days? Beautiful city and easy to get around in. Maybe up at the Edinburgh Castle overlooking the city lights at sunset?
