RIGHT CHOICE

Hi there,

I don't know what would be the right choice. My wife likes to go shopping while I prefer to take photographs of beautiful sceniries. Is Spain the answer. We need reccommendations.

Thank You.
Try Scotland, based in or near Glasgow, which has some of the best shopping around with excursions to the rural hinterland for scenery

Second Sheila's suggestion: Scotland.

The (celtic) jewerly is gorgeous, the sweaters and clothing are excellent quality, the food (jams and jellies, umh!!), and IN TOP OF THAT, the scenery is amazingly beautiful!

Don't know what the situation is like there now, but Turkey would full the criteria (assuming your wife will enjoy bartering for her shopping). Great markets, great people and absolutely stunning scenery. Marmaris in the south is on the coast, not far from Pumakale and Cappadocia, but also has a large bizaar which is a bit less stressful than Istanbul.
Failing that agree Scotland, but also Ireland. France of course. Or perhaps London with some trips to the Lake District, Cornwall and Wales.
The world is your oyster...

Go somewhere clean. Thus don't come to Scotland - in many/most urban places it's a dump. I was ashamed to show my South African friends around Edinburgh in august because of the mounds of refuse, dog muck and general crap lying about.

Glasgow just won an award for the highest standard of living of Uk cities ( Edinburgh was second).

I haven't spent time in Glasgow for a while but whilst it certianly has bad places, it has very good ones too.

Tony, you need to move somewhere you like better.

ROME!

Switzerland would be an excellent choice. But, be sure to give your wife a credit card with a low limit...

The Greek Islands
Venice or Florence
Spain would be a good choice (go to Portugal too) but I guess it would depend on just WHAT your wife wants to shop for, if anything in particular. Any place in Italy or Switzerland would be ideal for you too.

Ali,

You've gotta go to Spain. It's among the cheapest countries in Europe (which your wife will love), and also one of the most beautiful (which you will appreciate). Try Madrid, Toledo, Seville, Granada and Bracelona.
Cheers
Bobby

Spain is a good choice for shopping and for scenery.
Ubrique has lots of leather shops. While your wife is shopping, hike the remains of the Roman road. In Ronda, she can look for antiques and olive wood while you view the gorge and the town.
Toledo has the Alcazar, the churches, El Grecos and damascene jewelry, swords, and other items. Ceramics shops are everywhere.
Sierra Nevadas have scenery plus woven wool and wicker and olive wood.

It seems to me that Scotland would be the best choice. I will be making my first trip there next month, but from everything I have seen, it is the best place for people who like to do the two favorite things in travelling...shopping and photography.
Kittie
