Overall one of the most beautiful cities around the Baltic Sea to me. Very interesting atmosphere of change, young society, passion.

Top 10 sights for me:

1. Latvian Museum of Occupation
2. Latvian Freedom Monument ("Milda")
3. The Dome and its organ
4. St Peter's Cathedral and the view from its spire
5. The whole ensemble of Old Town
6. The Art Nouveau district around Elizabetes iela, particularly the building of the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga on Strelnieku iela and its neighbouring building
7. The Market Halls
8. The view from the rooftop terrace of the Radisson Hotel/ The view from the rooftop bar (or sauna) at the Reval Hotel Latvija
9. Mezaparks
10. The Automobile Museum

I'm going with satotours is based in Austria, although I live in Seattle wa.
they offer tours all in spañish , but I booked with them mostly because they offer extra free time in each city for you to explore on your own. I'm not too much of a tour person but to these
countries I though it was convenient and safer to do so.

canal pict. where is this,what is it close to? and also the night ones , how late was it.I'm talking same 1st. page #2 and #9.The ST.Basil- I love that picture.

marti1, the evening photos in Red Square (St. Basils and GUM) were around 10pm-10:30pm. I was there at the end of July. Actually, the canal picture you asked about was from the same evening, probably only 30 minutes earlier, if that.

The canal photo was taken near the Kremlin. I don't have my maps handy, so generally I'll say that if you exit Red Square to the northwest end (by the history museum, then turn to the left and walk along the west side of the Kremlin (towards the visitor entrance), in about five minutes or so you'll be in a park-type area that also has some shops and restaurants (barely seen on the right in the photo; you won't miss the McDonalds). Sorry I can't be more specific. Will try to get my maps out later.

I'm not much of a tour person either, but I was traveling with my mother and that was her preference. Overall it worked out very well. It was fast paced, but we had a decent amount of free time. You'll enjoy this trip. I really did.
