Because they told us what they wanted them for. Of course many were collecting them but just as many wanted them for travel.
|
And PalenQ - I agree with all the points you made in your post.
|
<but to deny your own American nationality - shame on you!>
Oh, please. How much righteous indignation is necessary to expend on naive tourists who are so afraid of being attacked in Europe that they passively exhibit a patch on their backpacks in the hopes of being mistaken for Canadians? That's what's going on here, patriots, if it ever *actually happened* at all. BIG if. I still think it was a bad idea and a joke more than an implemented strategy. |
I'd wear an American flag upside down if fear of being attacked for supporting American often bullying policies were the cause.

cold
LOL... and this thread could definitely use a little levity. |
Are there any cases of a Canuck wearing an American flag for whatever reason?
|
I think this thread is full of...well, OK, not levity, but comedy, surely!
|
|
is this the time to mention RS is half Canadian? His mother is from White Rock BC.
Don't think she sports a Maple Leaf on her backpack. |
Secretly Canadian is a great indie record label. American, of course.
This thread has nothing on Fodor's anti-Rick threads of yore. Anybody remember poster Powell? Boy, did he ever disdain Rick Steves. |
This is the thread that never ends—
It just goes on and on my friends! Some people started posting here not knowing what it was, And they'll continue posting here forever just because ... |
Why is it ok to call us Canucks... Canucks are a hockey team.. not a nationality .
|
If an American hides behind a maple leaf,he is ugly indeed.
No offense to my friends to the north. |
Why is it OK to call <i>us</i> Yankees or Yanks?
Yank(ee)s are people from the Northeast. The rest of us aren't Yankees or Yanks! |
Just finished Rick Steves' tome on US/Canadian relations, brilliant.
|
<<Why is it ok to call us Canucks... Canucks are a hockey team.. not a nationality>>
Sorry, Justine, but we were Canucks long before the hockey team, in fact long before there was a Vancouver. Have you never heard of Johnny Canuck? |
I don't Americans Yanks.. and I was aware that "Yanks " are northerners..
I have never heard of Johny Canuck.. perhaps before my time?? I live on westcoast( for those who don't know, Canucks are a Vancouver based team ) and everyone here knows what the Canucks means here.. So now I have to google "Johny Canuck" lol . PS I think the word Yanks is often ( but not always ) used in a bit of a derogatory way, which I have never understood because to me the Yanks were in the right in the Civil War.. so I consider the term "Yanks " a compliment almost. |
Ok let's clarify. Within the USA yanks or more properly Yankees refers to people from the north and this term is used in the south mostly. Outside of the USA the term yanks was and perhaps still is used by some to refer. To Americans, it has nothing to do with north/ south relations but I suppose it may link back to the famous song Yankee Doodle Dandy.
Yankees is of course a New York baseball team but I do not believe it has any roots to the above discussion. |
What's the difference between a Yankee and a Damn Yankee?
Yankees go home. |
