Rick Steves Sighting in Paris

Hi everyone! We are having a marvelous time here in Paris. Much to our amazement Rick Steves is staying at our hotel! My sis took my picture with him and had him autograph her RS Paris Book!

lucky you, are there cameras around?

okay, just for curiosity, what hotel? Is he alone? I wonder if he ever travels with his family.

He does travel with his family. Had his wife and two kids with him in..hmm..think it was Amsterdam, Brussels..oh can't remember the rest. They were taking the train between cities. This was a couple of years ago.

Are you absolutely certain it was him?
Lots of people CLAIM to have sighted him, but when pressed for facts, the claims are unsubstantiated.
I think he is computer generated.
Remember Max Headroom?

Oooh, tell us which hotel!

platzman Jul 29th, 2005 06:42 PM

Ronda, seriously, I wouldn't divulge the name of the hotel for privacy's sake.

Rick Steves does exist. He did a pledge drive for Oregon Public Broadcasting (PBS) a couple of years ago and I was answering phones there, so I saw him. He actually seems like quite a shy man - others were chatting with him and he seemed very nice but not all that excited about the attention, so I didn't even bother to introduce myself.

He is traveling in Europe. On his web site it tells you that he is filming for upcoming programs.

Well, he must be staying on the rue Cler, his favorite spot in all Paris.

Marianna Jul 30th, 2005 03:37 AM

I think he's traveling about doing research for updating his travel guides. Someone else posted here that they sat and had breakfast with him at a B&B in Ireland, I think.

Looks like Ronda decided to stay at the Hotel Muguet in the 7th. (read her earlier posts) So that's where I am putting my money.

Betsy Jul 30th, 2005 11:51 AM

Oh say it isn't so! The Muguet is already so hard to book. If he gives it a positive review it'll be impossible.

Don't worry, there are still about 20,000 other hotels left in Paris, although most of them haven't enjoyed the Midas touch of Mr. Rick.

francophile03 Jul 30th, 2005 02:06 PM

And hopefully it'll remain that way too.

elberko Jul 30th, 2005 03:13 PM

The Muguet has been listed in Rick Steves book for years.

Oh whew!

Ronda Aug 2nd, 2005 06:27 AM

Yes, it was really him. We got his autograph and picture. He was with his friend and apparently some staff. They stayed at our hotel several nights as well. At some point I will put my pictures up and you will see he is wearing the same blue shirt he wears all the time. (oh mon deau)
