There are hideously misinformed people on this thread who need to take their attempted flame-war elsewhere. This is a travel discussion forum.

If you want to register at fark.com, I'll post links there that prove you are 100% wrong. But I won't do it here. It's not the place for it.

If we had read Rick's book on Rome more carefully, we would not have been fooled by the fake policeman scam [didn't get anything, however]. On the other hand, without the book we would not have had dinner at the Sacro e Profundo restaurant. I had a veal dish there that was so FULL of FAT that I could not eat one mouthful-and the waiter didn't even ask me why I didn't eat any of it, let alone offer to bring another dish! I wrote Rick and He was on a trip but they made note of the restaurant experience.

Curt, it was also a grammo, and should read, "those who . . . "

I don't regularly watch Rick Steves, not owning a television, but I did rent a DVD he made on travel in Italy. I thought it was pretty good.

kswl - you've related more than once here that you don't own a television, so let me be the one who asks "why not"? I can assure you they all come equipped with on/off switches plus a device called a "remote control", which allows for the viewing of a myriad of totally different programmes. Would you fear a total lack of self control should you have one? Many, many people cope just fine having a TV -- and learn/experience things they otherwise would not.

Do you have one of those bumper stickers: "Kill Your TV"?

The other day I saw this one: "Televise Your Kill".

Hello Nimrod, and good evening to you, too. No, I'm not afraid of a total lack of control--why would you ask something like that? I relate that information as part of an explanation--for example, the fact that I don't watch Rick Steves is not because I don't like his show, but because I don't have a t.v.

And I don't "do" bumper stickers, either.
