Look for a product called "riz." Unfortunately, the French do not know how to spell "rice."

The OP mentioned "elderly mother" and I'm currently dealing with an elderly aunt that is very particular about the brand of certain food items.
The phrase 'set in her ways' is very apt. If I can make my 92 year old aunt happy by buying her favourite brands why not do the same for an elderly mother who will be spending her time in an apartment in Paris cooking rice?

Why not take rice to Paris? It will free up suitcase space for the return journey and I for one enjoy a little shopping in Paris. I would not be bringing rice home!
