Rhodes To Chania-Please Help

On September 5th we need to fly from Rhodes to Chania. Aegean Air's current fare is E203.78. Olympic's price is E151.78 (all taxes & fees)

Questions:
1) How safe is it to book with Olympic?
2) If we book Aegean, should we wait to see if the price comes down or book now?
3) If we book with Olympic, book now, or wait?

Book now or take a chance on higher prices later or the plane being sold out.

Also check www.skyexpress.gr for flights to Heraklion instead of Chania. From Heraklion you can take a bus or rent a car to get to Chania.

Thanks, brotherleelove for responding.

The problem for us with Sky Express is the luggage weight limit. So, would you take a chance with Olympic or go with Aegean?

I would take the cheaper flight, although I prefer Aegean over Olympic.

How bad could the flight be? It has to be less than an hour, right?

Proenza_Preschooler, that flight requires a stopover in Athens and a change of planes. It can take up to 9 hours depending on the Athens connection. The shortest duration is 3 hours if you take the early-morning flight, and that's if there are no delays.

Would I go with Olympic? Probably, but I would do so knowing full-well that there is a chance for a delay or cancellation.

The baggage allowance on domestic flights with both Aegean and Olympic is 15kg. The baggage allowance on Sky Express is 12.5kg, only 2.5kg less. Sky Express states in its Terms and Conditions that the charge for excess baggage is €3 per kilo. That seems like a pretty good deal to avoid going back through Athens. Scroll to the bottom of the page on http://www.skyexpress.gr/terms.asp

Heimdall, did you see this requirement for Sky Express? "If there is a need for more weight, please contact the carrier 24 hours before the flight." I wonder if this means that if the plane is full and you have excess baggage, they can deny you.

Brotherleelove, the layover in Athens is only 1 hour for the early flight, not 3 hours. Or am I missing something?

Thanks to all for helping.

No, you're correct. I meant that the whole trip takes 3 hours.

Heimdall Jul 1st, 2008 10:42 PM

Yes, I saw the Sky Express notice. My main point, really, was that the difference in weight allowance is only 2.5kg between Sky Express and the other two airlines.

That is so weird that there is no direct flight.

I would go with Sky Express if they have a direct flight.

Why do you need so much luggage? All you really need is a bathing suit, a toothbrush, and a Brioni dinner jacket, sweetie darling.
