RHK's Fall escape
We embark today on a 5 week trip to Europe culminating with a repositioning cruise from Rome to Miami. The trip has been about a year in the developing, adjusting and finalizing stages.
We are 72 years old and well travelled, avid Fodorites and foodies.
Our trip lays out in the following way:
British Air (cash and Avios pts.) one way Boston to LHR (London). Rental car. Visits with 3 different English friends (two outside London and one in the Midlands) for a week with a final night at a Gatwick hotel. BA flight to Dubrovnik, Croatia (same one way flight which allowed a stop over in UK) where we will meet up with Peter and Linda, our fodorite friends from Hawaii. Four nites in Dubrovnik in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment (Airbnb) overlooking the harbor of Gruz. Overnight ferry (2 staterooms) from Dubrovnik to Bari, Italy. Train to Naples. Two nights at the Naples Renaissance Hotel. Ferry to Capri. Four nights at the Weber Ambassador Hotel (at the suggestion of some Fodorite friends). Ferry back to Naples and train to Rome. Three nights at Little Queen Apartment Hotel, Rome overlooking the ruins of Piazza Argentina (have stayed with them before and it is an excellent location and very comfortable). Bob’s Limo to the Port of Rome (excellent livery service). Fifteen night cruise from Rome to Miami on Celebrity Reflection in a veranda room. American Air (points) flight to Boston. Direct bus Logan to Dover, NH.
Two weeks at home followed by a week in Panama with our whole family to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Followed by two weeks at home and then two weeks in Bangkok, Thailand. Home just before Christmas.

Great plan. I know you will have a good time. Please say "hi" to Peter and Linda. I will miss seeing them in Hawaii (if I get there)!
(Your fall sounds like my late fall/early winter...starts off with Hawaii or FLA one week (?), Europe for 4 weeks, home one week, then Thailand for 3 week holiday trip, then home less than a week and then off to Vegas for about 9 days).....whew! And I have to mix in business and chemo between all of it!! Wish me luck.
Hi to Smeagol, whom I would love to meet some time.
You should try to cruise with Evelyne sometime! She and DH are cruising from England to Sydney. I have not figured out how many back-to-back cruises they have connected together to make this trip, all on the same ship. Wow! Envious! Although I think I might just go stir crazy for that many days at sea.
Anyway, enjoy your fabulous trip!

I always said in awe..them ex-Needhamites sure know how to keep on truckin'....If I haven't already I
will share my Croatian (and old Yugoslavian) pics which may give you some ideas. This is the year I hung up my travel shoes, no longer make overseas journeys..sneaking up on 88 and without either of my two late spouses (both great travelers and partners) I just don't have the initiative. It's all family now...we have 10 family members within blocks here in little Ojai...including a new great-granddaughter/ So vicariously I will continue to help out Fodorites with ideas and pix based on over 85 countries.
My Yugoslavian travels started in late 1970's as you'll see in the pics...then after the split I visited Croatia twice and Slovenia, B-H, Makedonia also twice. The roads were a bad joke way back then, the facilities were sadly lacking...but it was decidedly adventurous. Continuing Happy Travels for you all..

https://goo.gl/photos/TxjhE5usjw5NY95A7 (Old Yugo and new Croatia). Great place for breakfast at The Villa Dubrovnik or whatever it's called now...also, for dinner or lunch at the
scenic brookside/falls of the resto "Konavoski Dvori" just south of the airport (sign is on the highway pointing left), about a two mile drive close to Bosnia.(see pix)

Oh, you unlucky ducks! I wish I had your stamina Bob, and ditto for Jim. Don't know how you do it, but glad you do!
I know you'll have great fun, and I think I remember Peter and Linda from the first GTG we attended in Needham. So, Hi to them.

you are so organized! we were on the celebrity reflection last january and LOVED the veranda room. had room service breakfast every morning and such fond memories of these long, fresh, pretty mornings.
we loved the tea/coffee lounge too.
always plenty of towels by the pool.
amazing and friendly service. i don't think we ever walked down the hall without a couple of 'how are you today's' .
there may be a group for your exact cruise that you can sign on to through cruisecritic. we did, and had fun hearing everyone's tips and plans. also, they had a nice little get-together for the group members on the first evening.. i felt like i already knew some of them from being online. (like i do on fodors.)
have a wonderful trip, and will look forward to following along.

Envious of all your travels. Are you sure you need a home? Disregard my invite for a meetup in Florida. Just realized you return to Miami while we are still in Japan. Hi to Linda and peter. Have a great time.
