Rhine cruises
 

I am looking for a short 3-5 day cruise on the Rhine. I found one I liked on Eurorivercruises . Com. Has anyone ever used them? Other recommendations.?

I will be in Paris July 30 to August 3. My plans were to head to Strasbourg or Germany and spent 5 days to 6 daydream either on the romantic road or on a short cruise.

You know that most of your other guests will be 60 plus right?

I suppose you know that there are several boats daily between Mainz and Cologne as well as between Koblenz and Cochem (Mosel)where you can hop off hop on as many times as you like.

Thanks. Assume I know very little. I am traveling with 3 young adults. One of the is interested in Germany and the other two are interested in Paris or London. . My daughter will be joining us after a month study abroad in Spain. I have been to Paris. Trying to put together strip to please everyone. Not easy but everyone is flexible

I jumped on the ferry from Mainz and got off at a couple of different villages and browesed & dined. Then at the end of the day I trained back to Mainz. If I had more time I would jump off at one of the villages (there may be a castle/hostel along the way) and make the same trip in 2 days. See nedkervd above!

I don't have the patience for a cruise. At the end of my day on the Rhine, I had had enough of cruising on the river. Consider a similiar plan as an alternate and you'll have more freedom and if you're talking young adults, I bet that will be enough cruising time.

You can jump on these ferrys at many different places. So the freedom to begin where you want to (and end where you want to.) The trains run very frequently up both sides of the Rhine and I was ready for the pace of the train after all day on the river. But you could go from a starting point and end somewhere and go forward with your vactaion. Or you can return to your starting point. Many possibilities.

It was a beautiful day, though. Now that you have kicked off memories of that day I am enjoying it all again. Oh the vineyards and the castles! Enjoy.

IMHO, it does get boring after 3 hours or so. Suggest a base in a quaint town along the Rhein, say Bacharach, St. Goar, etc

Thank you. This has been very helpful. I think the day trip on the boat is just the way to go. Now. On to figuring out where to stop and stay.

If you have 5 days for Germany, the cruise itself will only be a very small part of your stay - maybe 2-3 hours at most. Start the cruise in Bingen and end it in St. Goar or Boppard to enjoy the best scenery. Then explore the other villages of the region by train; it is not especially easy to visit towns by river boat because of the relatively skimpy boat schedule, and trains run hourly or better.

The Rhine and Mosel Valleys are very close to each other and there are many truly delightful and romantic old-world towns and villages where you can enjoy a relaxing time.
