For starters, try www.fodors.com/miniguide, www.icelandtotal.com, www.iceland-discovery.com or www.icelandair.com. All will give excellent suggestions on where to stay/eat and things to see. If you're visiting someone who lives in Reykjavik, they may know some of the best places to explore that are off the beaten path. Good luck!

Also look for a very recent post here as well with suggestions. It you want more than those, post some more specific ideas of what you like and go from there.

For sure, get to at least one day trip of some kind. What's available very much depends on the time of year.

Alafos is a great place to get Icelandic sweaters for half the price that you would pay at the airport or gift shops. My wife has a dozen from various trips over the last 4 years. The Blue Lagoon is a must as well.
