Rex - How was Hotel Albana in Weggis?

Rex - I was just re-reading your earlier post about Hotel Albana in Weggis on Lake Lucerne. How was it? Is it difficult to get there from the train station? Or from there to Zurich airport? Considering staying there in May 2001. Any info would be appreciated.

Excellent.

Best features: rooms - - with maginifcent vistas over the lake out big balconied windows. Location is perhaps not convenient without a car (which we had) - - nice drive around one finger of Lake Lucerne to reach there from Lucener in about 30 minutes. Dining room was also excellent.

Is there train directly to Weggis? I kinda doubt it, but I could be wrong.

If so, cab to hotel would be two minutes, but from Lucerne would probably be a bit expensive.

Best wishes,

Rex

Rex - Thanks for your prompt reply.

However, I can't decide from your response if you would recommend it without a car? We only have one night there before catching 2pm plane out of Zurich. Would it be worth it, or too much travel/hassle?

Thanks,
Meg

If you're tight on time a car is really a strong preference.

Weggis has no direct train service. Connection via bus to train at Kuessnacht am Rigi takes about 35-40 minutes. Boat service usually a bit under 50 minutes.

The hotel and area are highly recommendable, but car is quite useful.

Rex - we'll be coming from Cinque Terre. Here's the whole itinerary: Fly into Rome, spend 4 nights. Train to Florence, spend 3 nights. Train to Cinque Terre, spend 2 nights. Train to Zurich/Lucerne, spend 1 night. Fly out of Zurich at 2pm next day.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thinking about spending 3 nights in Cinque Terre and taking early morning train directly to Zurich for 2pm flight. Too risky?
