Rex, A Question About the Albergo del Senato

Rex, upon your suggestion I've decided to splurge and make a reservation at the Albergo del Senato. The location seems just perfect and it's only $240/night. I thought it would be more. One question: if I ask for a double room, will I get a double bed or do I need to ask for one specifically. Seems that lots of European hotels I've stayed in have two small beds pushed together. Thanks.

I honestly don't remember. I think it was a "normal" double bed ("matrimoniale"). No need to hesitate asking/specifying the kind of bed you want. Queen or king might be less common in many hotels in Europe. I just couldn't tell you about either hotel. My wife and I accept a double bed readily when we travel - - and she wasn't even with me when I stayed at the Cesari.

Chances are you might get better answers (from others who have more recent recollections of their stays at either hotel) by asking again, and leaving my name out of the message header.

Best wishes,

Rex
Thanks, Rex. I'm excited about staying here. I've read really good things about the hotel. And next time, I won't put your name in the header. :-)

You're very welcome. As with any hotel selection, do not be bashful about asking to try to get the room that you really want. We were thrilled to have a direct line-of-sight view of the Pantheon; others have complained about not getting the quieter rooms in the back of the hotel.

It's wise to read ALL the threads reported here on this forum (about this hotel or any other place) to get all these differing impressions. All travel info is inherently "perishable". Be sure and share your own experience back here to keep the info "fresh".
When we stayed at the Senato this summer our double was two sperate beds. I do believe they have some doubles with just one bed, so it would be best to check with them ahead if that is what you want.
