Revised UK itinerary, flight questions

Well, my husband was forced to buy a new car this week (his 117K Bonneville finally croaked), so we are shortening our trip to the UK next July to 2 weeks to save some money.

We thought we would spend 5 days in London and take one day trip to Bath. Then we will go to Ireland for 9 days, which will include my friends's wedding. My question is: does it make more sense to fly in and out of London on a major carrier and pay for cheap flights to and from Ireland? Or should we open jaw with multiple destinations? Ryan Air seems to have great specials on flights to Shannon and Dublin, and it is usually not that expensive to fly non-stop from Boston to London.

Any thoughts?

TIA!

Hi love,

Check the baggage weight limitations for the discount carriers.

RyanAir are cheap and easy - play around with online flights. I'm sure they will be your best bet.

I would look for an open-jaw London/DUB or SNN. I would also ride Ryanair from Bristol to Dublin, thereby saving the hassle of returning to London. You can get car service from Bath to the airport for around £35, see http://www.drive-u.co.uk/index.shtml .

The discount airlines don't charge any more for one-way than roundtrip, so they're a good choice for open jaw trips.

Just, as someone else said, watch the baggage limitations. They are pretty strictly enforced.
