Reutte to Salzburg
I am driving fro Reutte to Salzburg in October. Any advice on which route I should take? Should I drive the German side or go through Innsbruck?
Also, any recommendation on a Hotel in Salzburg?

I finally got a hotel room in Salzburg after 2 weeks of emailing practically every hotel in my price range. My advice is that you'd better book something ASAP because this Mozart Anniversary thing combined with Oktoberfest overflow is causing a major overload on the hotels from Sept-Oct. I finally booked a room at the Schwaerzler Hotel Neutor. It seems to have gotten OK reviews...though reviewers stated that its definately NOT a 4 star hotel (as it is listed on hotels.com). I have a standard room and it's going to run about $100 per night.
Best Wishes!

We too drove the route through Austria. The views were quite incredible, especially near Innsbruck. If you want a good place to stop, I would suggest hall, a picture-perfect town a few miles from Innsbruck.
The German Alpine Road is supposed to be very beautiful as well. http://www.german-alpine-road.com/

Reutte (B-179)to Leermoos (Austrian B-187/German B-23)to Garmisch Partenkirchen (B-2) to Mittenwald -Zirl (Austrian B-177).
Autobahn A-12, east toward Innsbruck (make sure you have the Austrian autobahn user's vignette, you can get it in any gas station in Germany and Austria before you get on the autobahn)
By-pass Innnsbruck on the A-12, continue to Exit 59. Take Austrian B-172 to Walchsee, Koessen, Reit im Winkel.
Pick up German B-305 (Deutsche Alpenstrasse/German Alpine Highway). Stay on it to Berchtesgaden. Couple of places to watch: Afet Fritz am Sand (before Ruhpolding), B-305 makes sharp turn; don't go into Ruhpolding. At Schneizlreuth B-305 makes sharp left turn, don't go to Lofer.
In Berchtesgaden, at RR station, conmtinue on B-305 to Oberalm,B-305 becomes Austrian B-160 into Salzburg.
Give yourself 4 hours, or more if in B'gdn you want to take the detout to the Kehlsteinhaus (aka Eagle's Nest). For it,at B'gdn RR station follow signs to Obertsa;sberg.
