Reutte & Hall in Tirol
Has anyone been to these places? I've been reading Rick Steves' guidebooks and since I've already been to Innsbruck, Salzburg & Vienna, was looking for a different location to stop at, on my way to Milan & Venice from Munich/Fussen. Thank you for the help.

I have been to Reutte, or more precisely, a little neighboring town called Berwang (I think) - - once the search function is restored you should be able to read details from an earlier post of mine by searching "Erenberg", I think (the name of the hotel).

I wouldn't say that it is long on charm - - it's just a nice "authentic" little Austrian town that makes a good base for early morning visiting Neuschwanstein.

Hall in Tirol rates a little higher in my book. Spent a morning there on a cold, blustery, rainy March morning - - and still liked it quite a bit. Stayed at the Hotel Heiligkreuz - - www.heiligkreuz.at - - a pleasant enough place, though the management was rather "too Teutonic" to suit our kids (example: free internet in the hotel lobby - - but she made them quit using it at precisely 9:45 pm - - "time for bed"!).

Best wishes,

Rex
Traveler:

I have been to Hall many times over the years. My wife's cousins live in the next town up (Mils). Nice, small suburb of Innsbruck. Good resturants and a pleasant pedestrian zone for walking and shopping. Stayed in a wonderful guesthaus/farmouse in Mils that I would highly recommend if you are looking for a place to stay. Let me know and I will look up the info
JOHN

We have stayed at both Reutte and Hall. At Reutte you can enjoy one of the best glider rides anywhere at an unbelievable price of $30! And need I mention that the Swarovski crystal factory and showroom is only 4 miles east of Hall at Watten--enter at your own financial risk! Jinx Hoover
Hall-in-Tyrol has been my stop several times to visit distant relatives on my maternal grandmother's side of the family. It is one heck of a scenic and historic little town for a speck on the map. My last time there I stayed in a cloister and the room had a beautiful view of the Alps.

Hall is just a short tram ride from Innsbruck. The Swarovski Crystal factory which makes those beautiful glass figurines is a little further east, and on the other side of the river as I recall. There is also a Swarovski showroom and shop in Innsbruck.

John Bermont
www.enjoy-europe.com

Thank you for your replies. I couldn't make the Swarovski tour last time... I'll have to make time for it this time around. Rex, thanks for the hotel rec. It looks like the type of place we'd like to stay at.
