Returning to Paris after 6 years - Relais Louis XIII or L'Orangerie recent experiences
My wife and I have an opportunity to spend a couple of days in Paris after business trip. It's been about 6 years since we've been there.
We've dined several times at Relais Louis XIII (6th Arr.) and L'Orangerie on Ille St. Louis. We'll probably choose one of these to enjoy a Saturday evening meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Does anyone have any recent experiences with either restaurant? Thank you. |

I have a vague recollection that it was discussed in the past year or so that the restaurant Orangerie was no longer there. Haven't ever heard of Relais Louis XIII, either - you might check the yellow pages to see if those exist.

Well, just proved myself wrong!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Relais Louis XIII in June 2005 but never had the chance to return last April. In planning my Paris trip with my daughter (the chef) for next month, I did alot of research to decide on our restuarants. Well, I found a not-very-good review on Louis XII which I'll link here. I can't vouch for the author at all, but for what it's worth, here it is:

Thanks for the info. I looked at Travelnuts link and had a French colleague translate. The reviews confirmed that it hasn't slipped.
Margaret, I'm going the end of March. Will give you feedback |
So we returned to Relais Louis after a 6 year hiatus to find it on par, if not slightly better, then I remember.
If one aspect changed, it seems more expensive even if adjusted for inflation. But, we found the food to be excellant and a broad enough selection on the wine list to fit most budgets. For a main course, I had skate and my wife had the Steak Au Poivre. The latter was just an excellant piece of meat. |
Ryan, thanks for the update. My reservations for later this month are already set so maybe I'll return on my next trip. At least I can feel comfortable recommending the restaurant. I also found the wine list to be broad and the sommalier discreet and helpful.
