Return Rental Car in San Remo & Train to Nice

Hello everyone,

We are traveling in Italy and France next summer and will be picking up a rental car when we leave Venice, then traveling around Tuscany, and then would like to drop off the car in San Remo before heading on to Nice. I have checked autoeurope.com and this is possible, but I am wondering how to figure out the next leg of our trip.

According to Auto Europe, the drop off office in San Remo (for Avis) is located at "San Remo Downtown Office Corso Imperattrice 96." As I mentioned, after dropping our car we need to get to Nice and would like to do so as affordably as possible. How do I figure out where the train station is in San Remo? And, assuming it is not within walking distance of the Avis drop off site, will we be able to get a cab from this location to the train station? We will be traveling with our 9 year old twins, who can pull their own suitcases, but there is only so far we will want to walk.

Thank you!

Daria

Is it possible to drop the car in Ventimiglia instead? If so, you could avoid changing trains there. Google says your drop off point in San Remo is a 26 minute drive from Ventimiglia.

Oh, I will look into that. Thanks!

Also, I'm wondering if people have other suggestions aside from Kemwel (which isn't allowing me to pick up and drop off where I want to). The price AutoEurope is quoting is high (over $700).

But, also, I still need help figuring out how to get from the rental car drop off to the train station.

Thank you!

Ventimiglia is not an option on Auto Europe or Kemwel, so my question still remains for San Remo.

Thank you!

Hi. We did this a few years ago. Picked up our rental car with Auto Europe in Venice and dropped it off in San Remo before taking the train to Nice.

The car drop off location is less than a 10min taxi drive to the train station and we called a cab from the rental office.

I believe we had a direct train to Nice.

>>>I believe we had a direct train to Nice.<<<

Unless you can book a Thello train (only a couple of runs per day and perhaps not at the time you need), you will have to change trains in Ventimiglia.

The scenic route is actually to take the bus that runs right along Corso Imperiatrice every 15 minutes, with a stop close to your drop off location, all the way along the coast to Ventimiglia; it stops about a block from the Ventimiglia rail station. It's a really pretty route, with plenty flowers, cliffs, and views to the sea - - kind of jostling and fun - - and takes you through the middle of Bordighera (the train used to run by the sea too, till they built the underground tunnel inland).

The drawback to that bus is that it is sometimes really crowded. You might see if you can board it easily, and if not, call a cab to the San Remo train station. Technically they can charge for luggage at the same rate as for passengers (it's 2.50e per person). Here's the schedule: http://www.rivieratrasporti.it/Uploa...0Invernale.pdf
