Thank you Lorac for the list of French affiliated items...I'll be sure to buy as many as I can ...though the Dom Perignon is a bit out of every day reach.
It's a real joke for all the Patriots on this board to talk about boycotts when American and French diplomats will dine together and discuss their differences, laugh and joke about the furious reactions of their people and toast eachother with vintage wines from France. So if it makes you feel any better, eat your freedom fries and freedom toast.
Meanwhile Uncle Sam can toast Allende's overthrow and the Nicauragan contras...nothing like selective democracy to make you feel proud of your country.

giro,

Nicaragua is now a democratic country with free elecions...and your point is!

US
|
Tell that to the murdered victims of democracy...and no I am not naive...just dislike "America right or wrong..."
|
giro,

Perhaps you need ot reconsider your US citizenship if you are a citizen. I think that there might be a number of countries that would love to have you since this one doesn't meet your needs!

US

uncle_sam, you are so war happy. You go from 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 to 2,00,000. Since when, do you care anyway? You want war at any human cost while you sit on your rear end. Long live America and our soldiers.

US:
Based on the quality of your remarks, anything personally derisive is taken as a complement. This will be my last reply as your inane responses are sufficient rebuttal for me.

When will Fodors delete this offensive, bigoted, racist thread? This is a travel board, not a soapbox.

I was surprised to see this still going! Gor: My son-in-law (somewhere in the Persian Gulf on a Navy ship), appreciates your support. "Chicken hawks" squack the loudest IMVHO. Bring home the troops.....this is a huge mistake IMHO! Judy

I have posted this before and feel like it is worth posting again.

http://www.petermandelson.com/irgua01.shtml

Eric502: Thank you for the article. It certainly gives one a broader perspective.
|
Eric,
that's a good article, but I would recommend you read the articles that preceded it. I'll find some URL's and post them. I believe the granddaddy of these came from Defence Policy Review or Foreign Affairs.

The history books will note that today, March 17, 2003, the League of Nations was pushed into complete irrelevance by the pigheaded French. When no one takes them seriously (after the allies liberate Iraq and the Iraqi people are dancing for joy in the streets and the WMD are discovered) the French will have no one to thank but themselves. And the $8 billion they are owed by SH (see yesterday's Newsday) will be down the toilet.

Chirac tried to make sense of it all on 60 mins. last night. He cited his "love" for america and we are doing something very dangerous.

He should know,he has bankrolled all of their weapons.

How many French does it take to defend Paris?
Who knows,they have never tried.
|
All I know is that I have cancelled my plans to go to France next year....there are plenty of other beautiful countries that I can spend my money in.
|
It seems to me that there is a long history of friendship between the French and American peoples, and that almost all of the disagreements are between our governments, not our peoples. While an American boycott would no doubt get the attention of the French government, it would run against the feelings of most of our people.

I would suggest that, as France is so heavily socialized that almost everything is subsidized, the best way to put pressure on the French government is to visit France and buy the subsidized products. Run them into bankruptcy, while enjoying the things we like about France.
