No. Although there is a lot of overpriced mediocre food in Venice.

I remember hearing from long-term fodorite residents in Venice that the local bank manager eats there every day but only pays €5 for the privilege.

it is still a recommendation of sorts.

It definitely isn't necessary...we spent 9 nights in Venice over NYE and didn't eat there (and we are big foodies).

It is necessary to do some research though, bad food is easy to find.
