Now we are really getting excited about our visit to poland at the end of the month. We have the hotels chosen finally, but now would really appreciate any advice about your favorite restuarants. Thanks so much. jan

Restaurants! Each of these cities have 'world class' restaurants catering to visiting business people and moneyed tourists. Try <www.what-where-when.pl>. 4 & 5 star hotels usually have great restaurants. Spend some time reading NEW guide books for current recommendations and reviews. Your hotel concierge Is another source of local information. For fun, ask a taxi driver for the best restaurant in his city. Please send us a report.

Torun: Hotel/Restuarant Heban - www.hotel-heban.com.pl
regional / continental - one of the very few restaurants that serves "czernina"/"czarnina" soup - which is a specialty for this part of Poland's region - black soup made from goose blood spiced with apples and plums - tastes great...
Sphinx - Ul. Zeglarska 31 (right next to clock tower) mix of Greek/Regional/Continental.
U Soltysa - ul. Mostowa 17 (block away from Clock Tower) - Regional - Old Polish - authentic old Polish food.
Hungaria - Hungarian Food - great prices www.hungaria.torun.com.pl
Bar Malgoska - ul.Szczytna 12 - very cheap good food - regional dishes - all in Polish - so will need to point and ask - self serv - all fresh - very popular with students and Polish travelers.
There are few Mexican and Chinase restaurants in Torun - those are bad - so don't waste your time...
Warsaw - Old city has bunch of the places - all are good but all are upscale. "Bazyliszek" on old square was always good... Also there are bunch of from fastfood places to good Indian/Mexican/thai places.
Krakow: HAWE£KA - Rynek G?ówny 34 (try mushroom soup in bread... right in Main Square...

Cracow:
"Redolfi" Rynek Glowny 38 on the main square. Had a very good meal there.
If you prefer a nicer atmosphere :
"Pod Aniolami" ul.Grodzka 35 food also very good. As Cracow is a university town we found that most of the waiters/waitresses spoke english.

We also enjoyed Hawelka in Krakow, it was warm enough for us to eat outside and we enjoyed people watching while eating some delicious pierogi.
If you need a break from Polish food and want something really casual, there was a really good wood oven pizza place in Krakow, Pizzeria Cyklop at ul. Mikolajska 16, about a block from the main square.
I thought the in your pocket guides had good information, there's an online version www.inyourpocket.com
