Restaurants Paris
 

As a frequent visitor to Paris I like to discover new places to eat and visit. Do you have any favorite places that you will go again and again,some place that was memorable regardless of price from the least expensive to deluxe.

No matter how many new places we have on our yearly list for Paris, we have 4 we consistently go back to at least once on every trip.

At Bistrot de Paris, my husband orders the same meal every time we go there. Foie de veau, a sensational mac and cheese and creme brulee.

DH is very partial to Chez Maitre Paul in the 6th with their chicken with morels in jura wine sauce. We love Zygomates, but it is stuck way out in the middle of nowhere in the 12th, lost our favorite Chez Clovis in the Les Halles area when they renovated it--still there but not the same, Will go again and again to Fables de la Fontaine in the 7th and have their shrimp in filo with lime basil dipping sauce, love Mavromatis in the 5th for really good, upscale Greek, and Chez Vong off Rue St. Denis in the first for top drawer Chinese in a beautiful setting.

Intend to try Pamphlet and possibly Chez Fernand on our upcoming trip. I know lots of people love Le Reminet but we just can't get with it. Don't know why.

I plan to return to Chez Denise next time I visit Paris. Chez L'Ami Jean is also excellent. But I do not visit as often as some others here, so am not so current on the restaurant scene.

Like ekscrunchy don't get to Paris as often as I would like but on my list for the March trip is Le Comptoir (hope reviews saying it isn't as good are wrong), Le Regalade, Christophe, Itineraries, Le Petit Pontoise. A place we have returned to is L'Ardoise (in the 1st) which is a good Sunday night place.

Mr frogoutofwater and I lived in Paris for a few years. Our favourite restaurants include:

- Pomze (8th arr). Inventive but not gimmicky menu that features apples in each dish. Great prix fixe (around 35 euros for 3 courses) that can be paired with a 3-glass flight of apple ciders matched to the courses. Friendly and attentive service in an attractive restaurant in a converted Hausmanian apartment. Nice for a romantic, not too expensive splurge.

- Le vin dans les voiles (16th arr). Our neighbourhood wine bar with a short, excellent menu with great prices. The proprietor is a friendly man with an extraordinary moustache. Very small room, so reserve ahead (but you probably only need to reserve a day in advance, or even just a few hours in advance on a weeknight). It will feel like a "locals-only" experience - this restaurant floats under the radar of guidebooks.

While not as special as these two restaurants, we also like l'Alivi in the Marais. It features Corsican cuisine and is quite charming in appearance.

I actually rarely eat in French restaurants in Paris, since I can cook all of the French food I want at home. (I live in Paris.) However, if you are interested in any ethnic suggestions, I can give a few. (Not Italian, because that is considered to be just as local as French food.)

Just an update to my post.

Le Dauphin in the 1st has changed hands and is now called Le Bis Repetita. Don't know where former chefs Didier Oudill and Edgar Duhr of Le Dauphin have gone.

Where would you go for a "special" aka birthday lunch or dinner?
I'm currently in Paris and having quite the time trying to decide.
We have a few of the above restaurants planned for next week and want something special for Friday that won't completely break the bank.
So far we've only eaten at Les Violon d'Ingres for dinner (have an apartment) last night and weren't overly impressed, but spent as though we should be.

L'Espadon. And I was happy to see it just got bumped up to 2 Michelin stars. Very well deserved and long overdue IMO.

The menu looks wonderful but out of my price range, sadly!

Welch I was answering Leto's question about where I return for dinner again and again.

But to answer your question, I might suggest Le Train Bleu or perhaps Brasserie Bofinger. Beautiful atmosphere, good food, at reasonable prices.

I had the best sautéed scallops with basil and cashews yesterday at Tin-Tin on rue de Torcy. It cost 9.50€ though.
