Restaurants not to be missed in Ireland
We will be visiting: Dublin, Kilkenny, Bantry, & Clifden. Which restaurants should we be sure to go to? I understand that the cuisine is excellent. We are interested in all price ranges. Thanks.

I ate at Mitchels and Derryclare in Clifden and loved them both. Mitchels cost less. The Itallian Connection in Kilkenny was delicious. I am sure you wil get a lot of other suggestions.

For a real treat in Dublin I love the Tea Rooms in the Clarence Hotel for an evening meal. Very expensive but worth every penny for an exquisite meal. Make sure you stay for a cocktail in the Octagon Bar afterwards!

In Clifden, we ate at Off the Square. It was moderately priced and quite good.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

Kilkenny has a pub/restaurant over a club called Breathnach's -- wonderfully prepared food, nice decor/atmosphere!

Several years ago we ate at The Gray Door in Dublin. It was very good. There is also a good place to eat on O'Connell Street called Flanagan's Restaurant. They had a good steak. We also ate at a fish/chip place on O'Connell street for lunch--quick meal--not fancy! The temple bar area has a good traditional irish fare restaurant that is good. Have coffee/desert on Grafton Street at Bewley's Oriental Cafe (nothing oriental about it) Good place for lunch. I always have to purchase their coffee and tea to bring home, also good bakery. In Clifden, Off the Square( they have a web site www.offthesquarerestaurant.com) and Stoney's Seafood was good. There are several in town. We did eat at one of the pubs in the middle of town kinda in front of the middle part. Soup was good.
There is a great guest house in Clifden we highly suggest, Dun Ri, it is very brightly colored. Great place to stay and the breakfast was one of the best we have had. We have eaten in Kilkenny and in Bantry, but can't remember the names! I think mostly pub grub--which is good! Have a great trip! |
Thanks all. We leave this sunday and will check out some of these places.

We definitely recommend Mitchels in Clifden. We had lunch on a short day trip to Clifden in 2001 and had dinner twice on a longer return trip in 2002. Our friends joined us for the dinners and were as taken as we were. There is a good variety of food and wines.
